The Necessity of SalvationBro. David Chancellor

What then? Are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no not one; There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways; And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight; for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets: Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Are we any better than anyone else that has come before us? In everything we do, we need to realize that we need a Savior. Man, in his natural state, will come to a depraved end. People need salvation. No one is left out. Children are innocent; they don’t understand what they’re doing is sin. If they die in their innocence, God will accept them. Otherwise they need to grow up and realize that they need a Savior. Everyone needs to be saved. Only Jesus didn’t need salvation because he was already holy. Sin is a universal condition. We needed deliverance from a life of sin. We are what we are because of God’s grace.
1 Peter 4:17-19
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
Peter asks a couple of questions here. Those who don’t obey God will end up lost for eternity. Life may seem pretty good here, but that doesn’t change the end result. We need to seek the will of God and follow it in our lives.
This scripture addresses anything that would hint of religious pride. Pride isn’t part of God’s plan. Jesus needs to be exalted in our lives. If the righteous scarcely be saved, how ill you make it if you don’t follow Christ? All sinners need to be saved. Being a good moral citizen isn’t enough.
"Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator." Keep committed to God and keep your trust in him. Training is good, knowledge of the scripture is great, but salvation is still needed.
And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
This man had kept the law, but something was still missing. He realized that he didn’t have eternal life. Just keeping the ten commandments won’t keep you out of hell. It’s good to keep them, but they won’t give you eternal life. There’s nothing we can do to earn eternal life. We need to put our trust in Jesus. He’s the only one who can give us eternal life. Salvation does make a change, but it’s Jesus who makes the difference.
Riches don’t prove goodness although they provide a greater opportunity to do good things. They can hinder your soul if you put your trust in them.
Who needs to be saved? Everyone. Who then can be saved? With man, salvation is impossible. God is the only means of salvation. There’s nothing man can do to save your soul. We can’t do anything to save the lost souls around us. God is able to do all things. God made a way to be both just and the justifier of men. He was able to make a way for the punishment to be taken for mankind. Jesus is the only salvation for man’s soul.
1 Timothy 2:1-6
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Who gave himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time.
God would have all men to be saved. He’s made a way for everyone to make it if they’ll come to him. God wants everyone to hear the gospel. We can seek guidance in how to speak it, but God wants everyone to hear the gospel. God would have us pray for everyone. All need to be saved; all can be saved. Be sure that you’re saved. Keep things clear between you and God. We don’t want to hinder anyone else from being saved. We want people to come to know Jesus. We must know within ourselves that we are saved. If you don’t know, then you need to know that you need it. Why not know it today? You need salvation so that you can stand clear before God on judgment day.
