Making choices

James 4:1-4

From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

There will always be a war between right and wrong, worldliness and godliness. There are some things that can’t be reconciled. When we set our sights on the world it creates a problem between us and God. God requires us to choose between him and the world. This has been going on since the garden and will go on until the end of the world. We still have a choice to make. In God we can have the victory in our battles. The world and God are contrary to each other. God created this world and called it good, but he didn’t create it to become our focus. Our focus should be on God.

1 John 2:15-17

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

The world isn’t just about things. It’s about the desires that are at work within the heart. The things of this world deteriorate. The life with God is the only thing that’s lasting.

Matthew 6:31-32

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek;) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

These are necessities of life. God knows we need these things. Most people’s focus on these things goes beyond the necessity stage. Desire becomes part of the problem. People can be wrapped up in the desires of the flesh. They become their life. This brings a separation from God.

Matthew 13:22

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

This shows what happens when the necessities become the cares of this life. They had to prepare a lot better back then to have what they needed to survive. There are things that are more important than the cares of this life. A lot of people are forgetting that they have a soul. Don’t let anything turn you from God and the things he provides. Don’t let the cares choke the word in you. There’s more to life than just living.

1 John 5:1-5

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

There is a fight that goes on to try to destroy our faith. If we would overcome, we need to hold onto God. Don’t become captive to your desires. Keep faith in God. There’s something more than just the here and now. If you’re living to enjoy life and aren’t focusing on God, then you’re missing out. Walk with God and rise above the desires that would try to pull you away from God. Keep the thing that will last forever – your soul. Put God ahead of the world. Faith overcomes the world. Faith in God is the source of our victory and it comes from God. Reason only takes you so far. You have to believe in some things beyond what reason will tell you. When we believe in God, we can have the "I am" of faith. Through Christ, we can overcome. God can help us to go in the direction that is right. Let faith come out on top when you have to choose. Dream the dreams of faith. "and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith…" free web stats
