Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
Preparation in life is really never over. You can enjoy life even in the preparation times. Follow your dreams, but realize that the choices along the way need to be the right ones. One day God will bring you into judgment. Life isn’t one big party. For all the things you choose, the judgment of God awaits. Consider your choices and make the ones that honor God. If you heart is set on the wrong thing, you’ve got a problem. Be passionate about the right things. As you make choices, remember that God will judge that choice. Choose things that will appeal to him.
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him. He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope. He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach. For the Lord will not cast off for ever:
This speaks of God’s mercies to us. It’s good to wait on him and his deliverance. "It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth." The road of life isn’t always blue skies; there are some hard knocks along the way. It’s good to go through things because they help shape your character. Start at the bottom and learn some things. You have to gain experience to grow and progress. If you can’t bear the yoke, you probably won’t be much of a leader. Find the job no one else wants and become better at it than anyone else; that will be your chance to shine. Find a need and meet it. On the road of life we don’t start at the top. We have to start at the bottom and get busy doing hard work. God will bring you through life to prepare you for bigger and harder things on down the road. It isn’t always hard knocks, though. There will be joy in accomplishments. There will be victory and times of sunshine, too. There is value in going through hard things because you can achieve something and grow. Adversity can teach you to find strength in God to overcome it and keep going. God allows us to go through some things for our good. In all of that, God’s mercies and compassions haven’t failed. If you’ll put your life in his hands, God can choose the best course for you.
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes. With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statues: I will not forget thy word.
There may be some things that need to be cleansed and improved on. Run your dreams through the filter of God’s word. Filter out the things that aren’t according to his word. Parents, stay true to what you’re trying to teach. You’ll influence the course of your kids’ lives. Focus on the end goal. Get on God’s path and stay there. God will teach us if we’ll come to him and learn. The way of God can be a good way. You’re never too young to start thinking about things. Consider all the options according to the word of God. God’s way is the one that should get preference. It’s a good way to handle things. We never get so old that we don’t need direction from God. Be careful not to put things in the road that will keep you from reaching heaven. Weigh things out now because your choices will affect the rest of your life. The destruction can be great and lasting. Choose God early. You’ll spare yourself a lot of trouble.
1 Timothy 4:12-15
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
You don’t have to try out every wrong choice. You can learn from your experiences. You can make right choices and be an example to the world around you. People notice those who are living a good godly example. Take time to study. Don’t tune out words of admonition. There are things you can be taught from the word of God that can help you sort out the issues of life. Don’t neglect God’s gift of salvation for you. You won’t find what you need through neglect. Don’t let life get too busy to serve God. Don’t neglect what really matters in your life. Great preparation isn’t enough if you don’t walk with God. If your heart is given to God, it will show over time. Success in life is seeing God’s purpose accomplished in your life. Keep God as your focus, no matter what course your life takes. Walk with God all the days of your life.
