The Spirit of TruthBro. David Chancellor

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
The Spirit of truth causes us to want to live honestly.
And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts. My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name. The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.
This helps us understand why God chose Levi. Levi was concerned about how God saw things. If you fear God you’ll look for the right way to handle things, not the easy way. Talk is cheap. It’s easy to speak without thinking. It’s easy to come short there first. "The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity." We want this to be our life. We want to turn others away from inquity.
These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord.
"These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:" This reads like a promise of what would happen in the gospel day. Truthfulness makes society function because it means trust can be there. Without trust, society has problems. People need to see us live the gospel.
"And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord." This is the negative side. These are things to shy away from. God wants a true and honest people. You can live with boldness in the face of the world. If you live honestly toward your fellowman, you have nothing to be afraid of because you don’t have anything to hide. We don’t have to have a façade. We can be real. We can just be who we are.
If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts: And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour; for we are members one of another.
The old man was corrupt, but the new man was created in righteousness and true holiness. Our life is changed from the old to the new. We interact with humanity and they know if we’re being honest or not. Sooner or later, they’ll see the real you. Be honest up front and life will be easier on you. Our lives have an impact on others. We need to be true and honest with our fellowman.
2 Corinthians 4:1-3
Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
It’s a wonderful thing to be part of God’s people. When the bible speaks of ministry, it applies to everyone. There’s a work for every one of us. There shouldn’t be any hidden things. People see your life and what happens at home tends to come out (especially if you have kids there). Be who you are in public and in private. When we live like God would have us to, we don’t have to worry. Model the word of God to those around you. Live out the truth. If we don’t live out the truth, the ones most hurt by it will be the lost. Paul had worked very hard to be commended by the Jews, but when he found Christ, he found that something had been lacking. He was able to point out the difference God had made in his life. Dishonesty is the root of hypocrisy.
What advantage then hath the Jews? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. For what if some did not believe? Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
We’ve had the advantage and the responsibility of having the word of God. We may have been let down, but we need to remember that God doesn’t fail. Don’t be sorry to be a Christian. God remains true and is justified to judge us. We can overcome when we’re judged if we’re true in what we say and do. Honest living can remove fear from all we encounter. We need the Spirit of truth. Nothing is hidden from God. Leave things to him to judge. You can stand in the face of accusation if you’ve been honest and true. (See Ecclesiastes 10:20.) God has a way of exposing things that aren’t true and honest. It’s a sad day when that happens. Live true and honest before God and man in public and in private. Keep victory in your soul. Stick with what is true and right.
