Rest a Little WhileBro. David Chancellor

And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. And he said unto them, come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had not leisure so much as to eat.
Sometimes our lives can get very busy, and no doubt Jesus would say this to some of us. Sometimes our lives get too busy. We need to figure out what is important and get to those things in life. We have to make choices about what to do with our time. Make time to have quiet time with God daily. That quiet time has to be a priority with us. Jesus realized that these needed some time to rest. If we’ll be effective at getting God’s work done, we need quiet time with God to get the strength and grace to do what he would have us to do. We need time to reflect and consider.
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Does God ever have to tell you to be still? Spend some time getting to know God. It’s important that we settle down and have time for God. Being still and knowing God isn’t just about knowledge. Take time to think on spiritual things. Give priority to what’s important. God needs to be exalted in us. Realize the privilege of spending time with God.
2 Thessalonians 3:10-13
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
Even though these weren’t working, they were still busy. Their busyness was unhelpful. People find things to be involved in to fill up their time. There is a work to do. We should just settle down and get busy on the things that need to be done. We need some quiet time if we will work for God.
1 Thessalonians 4:9-12
But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia, but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
"And that ye study to be quiet …" It’s something to be focused on. Being quiet should be an intentional activity. Focus on settling down and calming yourself. Find time to think about things. Consider what matters. There is a time to socialize and there is a need to spend time alone. There’s a time to be a good listener, but realize you don’t always have to be with other people. You need time with God. If things draw you away from God, they aren’t profitable or important. We don’t want so many things in life that God is crowded out. If you take time in life to have quiet time with God, you’ll be able to stop and focus on God at church. Take some time to think and pray about things.
Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.
Can you quiet yourself and settle yourself down? If you can’t, God may have to quiet you down a bit. It’s important that we learn how to quiet ourselves. Learn to be still and hear God speak. Make time for God.
