Friendship of the WorldBro. David Chancellor

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Who is "the world"? What does it mean to have friendship with it? We are able to serve God in a world that isn’t serving God. The world is anyone who isn’t a Christian.
Abraham was a friend of God. He had a close relationship with and was faithful to God. A friendship with someone in the world isn’t the same as a friendship with Christians. This is because the interests and priorities aren’t quite the same. It’s amazing the faithfulness some have to the world.
Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword: From men which are thy hand, O Lord from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
The world lives for the here and now. Their portion is in this life. It’s a life like the animals live. We can have the necessities of life but those don’t have to be our focus. We can live focused on eternity. We focus on our spiritual being.
Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
God doesn’t call us to spend our lives angry. The world is angry. We don’t want to spend our lives always angry.
Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
People like acceptance. The "good time" the world offers won’t last. It’s fickle in how it stands by each other. There ought to be love and commitment among Christians that extends to others.
And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
There is an arrogance and pride that goes with the world. There’s a difference between a Christian and the world.
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. but when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever shall loose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
The world would try to convince us that we don’t want to suffer for God down here. It isn’t our job to make Christianity acceptable to the world. It won’t ever be looked on as something the world can completely accept. Whose acceptances do you want, God’s or the world’s? The world’s acceptance and the things of the world aren’t worth your soul. There are times to speak up and times to be silent. You may lose some friends because you stand up for what’s right. God wants us to be a good influence in an evil world. Don’t turn lose of God for the things of the world; you aren’t seeing the whole picture.
