****NOTE: The evening service was held on Saturday evening rather than on Sunday evening, in order that families would be able to have Christmas Eve (evening) together.****
This season commemorates the Giver. Giving to others helps us to remember Christ and how if we give good to others, how much more he gives to us when we ask. This Giver doesn't reject. He has a gift for everyone. Ask and you shall receive.
James says that every good gift comes from God. God is the one we want to draw nigh to. All good we enjoy comes from the goodness of God. Every good and perfect gift is from God. It is for everyone to enjoy. God included everyone. Mankind at times chooses to be left out, but God has good for everyone.
As we see mankind living without all God has provided, we realize that they do not see all that God has given, else they would ask for it. People are led by the devil to believe God's gift is neither good nor perfect. If people could just picture things the way they are, they would desire God's great gift.
God gave his son for mankind. He gave his son so that perishing humanity could enjoy life. Christ tasted death for us so we would no longer have to live in fear and bondage. The "whosoever" makes it for everyone. It includes you. The wonderful thing about a gift is when it is the manifestation of the love of the giver. God gave his son for us because he loves us.
The gift of God is eternal life. Jesus came that we could have an abundant life - one where you can enjoy the presence of God and know him. It is a personal acquaintance with God. Eternal life is having life because Christ is there. There is no reason for anyone to be without it. If a gift is not received, it doesn't mean it isn't available, but because the one it was for never came and got it. God has a gift for everybody. He wants to give us everything we need. God paid such a great price to give such a wonderful gift. He paid so much to provide eternal life for us. That people refuse this gift is sad.
Ephesians 4:7, 8
"Unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of Jesus Christ." Grace was given, to keep us living and walking with God in this present life. Christ gave gifts to men. Everyone that has received eternal life has also received charity. God has provided us a great gift by Christ. The love we show to each other is a gift of God. There are many still in sin and hatred, but God can change that. Humanity in that condition is humanity that is bound. It is the condition of mankind without Christ. Christ gave a great gift. Have we received that gift?
God gives you his gift by the Holy Spirit. This is what helps us to live and please God. Christ gave us this - it is expedient for each one of us. The Holy Spirit is God with us, an abiding comforter, to help supply that which we need. HE will provide to all who ask, but we have to be ready and wanting it and asking for it.
2 Corinthians 9:7-15
"Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift." One thing this gift does is to make you a cheerful giver; ready to give and be a blessing yourself. God loves a cheerful giver. When the Giver is on the inside, we will be a cheerful giver and will be interested and care about others. God wants the world to see God through you. We should be generous and loving. Mankind needs to see God working in our lives. The world needs to see there is one for them, too. It is there for each one - God's unspeakable gift - the gift of forgiveness, grace and his Spirit - to help us to live and do all that he would have us to do.
