A Pure Hear

Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

It’s a blessing to have a pure heart. The pure in heart can see God at work in their lives here. It’s necessary to have a close relationship with God to have a pure heart. A pure heart doesn’t have divided affections.

When we were saved, we were given new affections, but there was still some love for self there. This isn’t as pure as the heart can get. We need a relationship where all of our affections are set on God and not divided.

James 4:8

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

We want to see God, to be acquainted with him and to have a good relationship with him. If self still gets in the way, your heart still needs to be purified. "Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double minded." This deals with where your affections are at. We need our heart purified so we can focus on what God would have us to do.

1 John 3:1-3

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God; therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

When we became sons of God, a separation happened between us and the world. Our relationship with God tends to destroy our relationship with the world. Those of the world just aren’t as close to us as God is. It’s a different kind of relationship.

"And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." We can’t do this alone, but there is a part in it for us. We have to present ourselves to God.

Acts 15:7-9

And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us. And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Peter makes the point that God had accepted Gentiles as well as Jews. The people here were trying to figure out what to expect from a Gentile who accepted God. When the Holy Ghost comes in is when the heart is purified. It is the work of the Holy Ghost to purify the heart. He works on us to make God the center of our affections. When we have the love of God in our hearts, we’ll be able to love others as we should.

Titus 2:11-14

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Salvation is for everyone. Everyone can have it. It changes how we live now. It causes us to be a people set apart to work for God. When we’re purified, we’re made special to God. We become people who want to follow God without the need for external pressure to be applied. Your life will reflect what’s in your heart. God won’t force you to follow him only. It’s up to us to make that commitment.

2 Thessalonians 2:13-14

But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When the heart is made pure, it affects our demeanor. We want others to know what God can do for them. God came to do this for everyone.

1 Thessalonians 5:23

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is our desire for all mankind. We want to be purified completely. We don’t want anything held back from God. We want to choose him above all others. We need to love God above our own ways and desires. By faith in God, he can change us where he will be first. By faith in him our hearts can be made pure. free web stats
