Malachi 4:2, 3
Christ has helped us to know the meaning of righteousness. He came as one that can heal and correct needs.
Jesus read this passage from Isaiah. The Spirit of the Lord was on Jesus and he preached to them that had need. He came to bring the good news to the poor. He came to provide for the need of the whole man. Christ can mend the broken heart. Life has many problems, but God can take care of the need whatever it may be. Spiritual problems can cause physical problems. God can heal - whatever the need may be.
They had to let him down from the housetop to bring him to Jesus. Jesus forgave his sins but did not immediately say, "get up and walk." We can't make things right between us and God; we need Jesus, the healer. It was just as easy for Jesus to forgive sins as it is for him to heal the body. Christ, by healing the physical, was demonstrating the healing capacity for the soul. Christ showed here he had the power to heal, whether it be soul or body.
The Psalmist was picturing a need in the soul of man. When man cries out this way, God works a work in the soul.
1 Peter 2:24, 25
"...by whose stripes ye were healed..." Our souls were healed by Christ. Christ suffered for the healing of the whole man. The greatest affliction man can have is to be bound in a life of sin. The only way to be set free is to come to the healer.
Christ took the gospel to several places. Christ can heal from evil spirits. Three women are mentioned here: Mary Magdelene, Joanna, and Susanna. These not only heard the message, but were a testimony of healing. Christ would be manifested in our life, so that others can know what he can do (set free and heal).
"Is any afflicted? Let him pray..." Sometimes you need to exercise yourself in prayer, sometimes you need to sing a song. Songs can encourage and lift up. It can give expression to what you feel in your soul. "... the Lord shall raise them up." We don't want to put our faith in men as such. Men come short of having their needs met because they aren't looking to God for help. God is the one that will raise them up. We need God to do the work and yet we need to pray. If you are having spiritual difficulty, you need prayer. "Confess your faults" - prayer request that things can be corrected. When you know of a need of another, there is a need for prayer. The Lord will make the difference. Our part is to pray. If God has worked in your life, you need to be willing to bear another to God. Bring the one that needs healing to Jesus. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
