Part 2 – Why It MattersBro. David Chancellor

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
God is able to do anything he wants to do. He is not only able, he’s willing. It makes a difference when we go to God in prayer. We need to believe that God will intervene in the matters that concern us. We need to believe he can change us. If we don’t believe he’s a rewarder, then our prayers are simply a recitation of our needs and wants. It becomes a duty or a requirement… a form… a pointless exercise. The faith that pleases God goes to him expecting something to happen.
O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain: O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength: lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God. Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
His reward is that he’ll gather you up and deliver you from your enemies. He has what we need, and he will give it to us. People need to realize that God is able and willing to meet their needs, especially the need of their souls.
1 Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
The communists believe "religion is for the weak." They’re right. They just haven’t realized that they’re weak. We need God. We’re dependent on him. When you realize that you need God, it makes sense to go to him. One of his attributes is that he cares about you. It needs to be personal. We need the assurance, "he’s interested in me!" Peter encourages us to cast all our care on him. This includes all real and imagined cares. It would be pointless to take them to God if he wouldn’t do anything about them. We have to believe he’ll care and intervene. Most people are reluctant to turn their problems over to God until they become crises. Learn to take it to him sooner. He’s both willing and able to help.
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and ground in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height: And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
This is Paul’s prayer for the church. It matters that we pray for God to still work this way in his church. It pays to live right to have a good relationship with God. We need grace and strength to stand in the face of the world. In our weakness he is strong and by him we can stand. God is able to do beyond what we can ask or think … and he is willing to do beyond what we can ask or think. We need the relationship with God that allows us to look forward to eternity with hope and expectation.
Then Jesus said unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
There’s a day coming when Christ will come back and give everyone their final reward. We need to put everything into our walk with God. We need to be completely sold out to God. We need our relationship with God to be such that we look forward to our final reward. As people seek the world, it fails them. Sooner or later people disappoint you. Even in this world it isn’t profitable to follow after the world. What the heart desires can only be found in God. It is God’s will for us to have salvation and to be with him forever. You have to go to him with the expectation that he’ll do something about your life.
