Could you believe in something you can’t see, feel or touch, and only know is there because of a small glimmer of light? Some who believe in this think we’re strange to believe in God.
1 Timothy 6:13-21
I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
Paul makes clear the greatness of Jesus Christ. There is none that is comparable to him. He is the ruler of this world. He is the only King of kings and Lord of lords. There is no succession. Everything that has come around since Christ has required a succession because men die and someone feels the need to carry on what was started. Jesus is still living and needs no successor.
There are some things in our lives that only God can change. Some would say that we need to leave him.
"O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen." When science becomes religion, it is false religion. The scientific method merely states that it proves to some degree of certainty what they set out to prove, but it still isn’t 100%. We don’t object to studying this world, but we object to that which would put "rationality" above God. Rationality won’t solve the problem of sin. Jesus has the only answer for sin. Without him, people will stay in their depraved condition.
The problem with the scientific method lies in the hypothesis. It’s your idea and you want to defend it whether it is right or wrong. Scientists are still exhibiting depravity and science won’t solve that problem. Jesus is the only answer for depravity. Scientists believe in dark matter, which they can’t see, feel or touch, but would ridicule those who believe in God. There’s something wrong with that.
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Men can dream up all kinds of theories. Scientists have come up with dark matter and black holes. Man can develop theories and convince himself of them and turn his back on God and miss out on what is really important in life.
Great intellect does not necessarily indicate great intelligence. If you start in the wrong place, you’ll end up in the wrong place. You have to start with the right information. The Bible is where the right information is found.
The hypothesis should be looking at what you don’t know. There are things we know that we know. Who would want to be the last man to die for a lie? The ones who wrote the Bible didn’t die for a lie. They didn’t believe it was a lie. John wrote what he wrote as firsthand knowledge. The Bible is the place to look for those known unknowns. God can help us to find the answer. We don’t have to worry too hard about the unknown unknowns. There are some things we’ll never have the answers to. God can help us deal with the things in life that are unknowable. He knows the unknowable and he can give us what we need to go in the direction that we need to go in.
We don’t want to get lifted up in our minds. It’s better to have God.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
Every person has a rationale for what he is doing. The great minds of science don’t like to take responsibility for their own rationale. Science and education won’t solve the problem of depravity. Nothing in science can establish that we are a moral being, or that we have unalienable rights. God spoke to mankind in his word and we need to listen.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Those who would try to influence you into believing that there is no God prove that intellect does not equal intelligence. This calls those fools. We don’t want to be taken in. Men may be able to argue for their point of view. How does that point of view measure against the word of God? Let God be true and every man a liar. There’s nothing more important than to know what God says and to live it. Figure out what God has to say about things.
The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful. The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good. He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
These who think we can push religion out and have a secular nation and things still be fine are fooled. Depravity will still be there. Man needs to be accountable to God. When you take the reasoning of science to its logical conclusions, you’re left with a world that is a sad place. Science can’t answer "Why?" People need to realize they’ll stand before God one day. When you face death, you need to realize that you’ll stand before God. People need to have a fear and a reverence of God. God sets the time and boundaries and you won’t move them. If people leave God out, they will eventually prove that "sin is a reproach to any nation." We need to find in God the real answers for life.
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
God made the whole world. He sets the bounds. We won’t go beyond the bound of time he set for us. He isn’t far from each of us. Which would you rather believe in, God, or dark matter? God can do something for you, while dark matter can’t. God has appointed a day when we will all stand before him. The scientist will not be delivered by his science then, just as he isn’t now. Only by God can the soul of man be delivered from sin.
