Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth: and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." Therefore … because of God’s goodness, there are some things for us to do. We need to be as good to others as God has been good to us. His goodness should inspire us to do good to others. We want to become a conduit of God’s blessings. If we have plenty, we should be generous. If you have a big storehouse, why be stingy? When God gives us all of his blessings, we need to be good to others. What we’ve received from God should bring good out in our lives.
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
It was the mercy and goodness of God that brought us to repentance. Since he had mercy on us, we should have mercy on others. We need to bear with others. If we lack mercy with others , we could discourage them from seeking after God. The qualities of God in us will draw people to God. If we lack the qualities of God while claiming him, it could turn people away from God. We can be merciful to sinners without condoning sin.
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
As God forgave you, forgive others. God forgave before we asked. He provided for our salvation from the foundation of the world. Repentance is important, but it doesn’t earn forgiveness. We can forgive others before they ever ask. Being unforgiving causes the one carrying the hurt a lot of troubles. We need unconditional forgiveness. We shouldn’t make people do a lot before we forgive them. We need to manifest the same qualities that God has shown to us.
Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O Lord. Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way. The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
God forgave the sins. If something is forgiven, it won’t come back up. God teaches what good is by his goodness to us. He doesn’t always teach through hard times. We can learn from his goodness. God’s goodness should inspire us to be good like he is. We should be good to others whether we think they deserve it or not. God is good to us even when it isn’t deserved.
1 John 4:7-11
Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
We should love as God loved us. God loved us when we didn’t love him. What kind of love do we have? We need to love others in the way Jesus did. He loved us when we weren’t doing what he wanted us to do. He wanted us to be able to do what he wanted us to do. He loved us while we were yet sinners. We need to have the same love for sinners. We need to have the same love for sinners. We want them to experience the same love we have experienced.
Everyone enjoys being loved, but not everyone loves other people. For other people to experience what real love is, God may need to use you. You need to give expression to love in your actions. He wants the sinner to get a taste of his love through us. God’s goodness to us should bring out the same qualities in us. God is good to us all the time. By him shining through us, others will find him, too. Be a conduit for God to work through. Let others see in you the qualities of God. Let the goodness of God shine through. We don’t need to hoard God’s goodness. He’ll provide all that we need.
