"He gave some apostles, prophets, evangelists and preachers" - He gave gifts and different works to each one - all for the building up of the body of Christ, and for the perfecting of the saints. The work is that the saints be perfected, the body edified, and that people come up to the measure of Christ. God's plan and will is that all of his children come to the stature of Christ. It is our work to see people established. It is the work of the ministry to bring people to the place where they won't be tossed about. Its not their calling to be the anchor. There's a "coming to" and when you come to that place you'll have the wherewithal to stand victorious in the world about you. We need to get to the place when winds blow, our anchor grips tighter and helps us stand. There is something wrong when the pastor has to keep pulling people in line. The spirit of God is the anchor. If the pastor is trying to be the anchor, he doesn't have the proper qualifications. We need an anchor within that will keep us going straight and right. It is the work of the ministry to help people get settled and stand true and faithful. God would have us have the victory over everything that comes.
When the Spirit of truth is come; he will guide you into all truth. Do you have that guide within that shows you where to go and what to do? If you end up in something that isn't true, it is because you didn't follow the spirit. If we are in to other things we need to look at what we are following. If you have a good guide, you don't have to worry about knowing the way because that guide knows exactly where to go and what to do. If we're just adrift on life's ocean there is something needed. The Spirit is to make things known to us; he is to give us illumination. We expect those that lead to have that guide, because they can't lead us aright without it. If we can follow the spirit of truth, we can have assurance that we are walking right. This guide is for every one of God' children that they can be established. people have gone off because they didn't have the guide. Preachers can go wrong, but if we have the spirit of truth, we don't have to go wrong. The need today is for all of God's people to have this guide.
He is the guide and he's also the teacher. There is a benefit in being able to sit and listen to others. We need the teacher to be able to know what is right and wrong, to open our understanding and help us sort things out. There are all kinds of teachings and thoughts that will come our way, but we can have the teacher with us to sort out what is good and what is not good. As much as we might like to think otherwise, false teachers ARE out there. We need the teacher to guide and teach and help us to know what is what.
1 John 2:27
"the anointing that you have received abideth in you..." You can get lessons in all kinds of places (like Taco Bell, on airplanes, most anywhere) as long as the teacher abideth in you. You can get the lesson wherever God can speak to your heart. Pastors need teaching and encouragement like everyone else. It is the teacher, the guide's abiding light that you need most of all. We don't need men's ideas. As the teacher teaches, you need to stick with it. Abide by what is taught. As the Holy Ghost abides in your heart, you will be a person of strong convictions. You need the strong convictions to help you be stable and stand firm and true. Abide in what God teaches. When the Holy spirit teaches, we need to do what he says regardless of what others say. "What did the Holy Ghost tell ME to do?" Whatever he says, stick to it. Go with the right teacher. If the Holy Ghost says something, do that. If others tell you to do something and the spirit doesn't back it up, then go with what God has told you to do. Charity is kind while suffering long. When it is tough and things are rubbing the wrong way, that is when to be kind. Do you hurt back, or are you kind? We need to abide by what the teacher teaches. He teaches lessons we don't normally get elsewhere. We need the inner guide and spirit that can help us be kind though deeply hurt. The Spirit can help us know what to do along the way of life.
If the first had been perfect why would you try to improve on that? Because they didn't keep the covenant the Lord didn't regard them. The first covenant was external. Each time they stepped out of line there was a plan to pull them back in line. The pastor can't be your anchor, because that is external, like the old covenant. The new covenant puts the laws in your mind and heart. If you keep the covenant, God regards. Under the New covenant we get the teacher and guide within to establish us. He is to us a God and we are to him a people. The spirit within is a much more wonderful covenant. You don't need someone else to tell you about God if you know him. Many today claim to be the people of God but don't know him. He wants to put your past behind you. You need Christ within.
God has provided for men to have the experience of sanctification, witnessed by the Holy Spirit within which is witnessed by the law of God within - guiding and directing the way that we go. People that claim to have the Holy Ghost without a strong conviction of truth have been misled. If the spirit is within you'll have a strong conscience of right and wrong. If the spirit is there, he'll help us know what to follow, to know what truth is. When the guiding light is there, we won't go wrong. When the preacher has to constantly be pulling people in line - the experience of sanctification isn't there. If the guiding light is missing, sanctification is not there. The Spirit helps us to stand true. Abide in what he shows.
1 John 3:24
The Spirit of truth and right, that would guide us to do what God wants done is how we know. Try the spirits, (1 John 4:1). We want the laws of God in our heart to bear fruit in our life and make us all he'd have us be.
Brethren count it all joy when you fall in to divers temptations. The winds will blow, temptations will be around - count it joy, stand in the storm and temptation and trial because you have the anchor. If you lack wisdom, if something is lacking as you go through things, ask of God, he giveth to all men liberally. It's not "if any lack knowledge" but "if any of you don't have wisdom or the teacher", ask of God. We need the laws of God written in our mind and heart. "The Father is more ready to give than you are ready to ask." If there is a lack in our life, we need to ask. He can give the inner strength to weather all the storms we face in life. It is a matter of seeking God and getting that spirit within. We need his laws within that we can live and do what is right. He won't cast you down but will give liberally. The strength of God's church is the spirit of God within.
