The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Mothers are on the front line of civilization. They pass on civilization to the children. We need mothers to take time with their children to keep our nation strong. The role of a mother is vitally important.
The mother gives something to her child. She gives the child the upbringing necessary to be successful in life. Being a mother isn’t an easy role all the time. There are times when you have to give the child wisdom It’s not always a pleasant position. The mother has to change and train her child in what is right. Some unpleasantness is necessary to achieve the desired result. Some day the correction will be understood. Children left to themselves won’t grow up to be a thing of beauty. When children are born, you sign up for a lifelong project. Dad needs to be there to help mom out and be her reinforcement. A mom should know her child better than anyone else. The mother is there to influence the child, and if she abdicates her responsibility the child will bring her to shame. The role of the mother isn’t just reproof and correction. You can also do things they enjoy. The mom should be the homemaker, not the housekeeper. She should make the home a secure place to grow up. She is there to help the children grow and develop and to train them in the culture. She needs to teach them social skills. Motherhood is a job with enjoyable moments.
A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
The dad has a part in the training also. Children should appreciate the correction their parents give and not be rebellious against it. Keep a good attitude toward your mother. Your mom is the one that cares about you. Even if you had an upbringing that was less than what it should have been, there comes a time when your choices are your responsibility. Be respectful to your mother.
Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
Don’t despise what your mother has passed down to you. Your parents may be giving you some things to carry on. Don’t throw away the good things that your parents have given you. Take it and make it part of your life. The greatest honor you can give your parents is to love and serve God. Bring rejoicing and gladness to your parents. Settle yourself in the truth and don’t move from it, and you’ll be a real honor to your parents.
