Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Jesus met with the disciples and "upbraided them" for their unbelief. He did it to help them to get beyond where they were at. He gave them a commission to go into all the world and preach the gospel. He wanted them to make it known to every creature. We should be as ready to tell the gospel as we do every other kind of news. Jesus pointed out that the outcome of their mission was significant. If the gospel is not shared with others they will have no opportunity to enjoy what God has sent for them. If you don’t share the gospel, the people you know will be lost.
2 Timothy 2:1-2
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
This describes what Jesus had in mind when he gave the great commission. He wanted them to tell others who would then tell others. The gospel was intended to be spread from person to person. What happens if someone won’t pass it on? It will stop with you. If you will open up and share, it can be a help to others. This is the way the gospel has been passed from generation to generation. To effectively carry the gospel, it needs to be personal. You need to be able to tell others about the gospel and how it has affected you. Take the opportunities that you do have and make the most of them. The gospel can be shared if we realize that it is up to use to carry it. Look at your daily life as a way to reach others.
For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
We could make an excuse as these did – "no one told me what to do." Look for things to do. The Spirit of God can give us guidance and direction. Are you looking for credit and recognition? Quit worrying about that and let God show you what needs to be done. See what is there to be done. Get in there and do the work. God will reward you what is right. Leave that with him and don’t worry about it. Be faithful and don’t worry about being noticed. Our goal is to help others find God. We don’t want to be found standing idle. Be busy with what you can find. If you are faithful, then God can open additional opportunities to you.
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
"Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called…" If you would carry the gospel, you need to walk worthy of the gospel. If you walk worthy, you will be more free to share the gospel. People watch how you live an it will count more than your words will. Your life will give credibility to the words you do say. Be careful how you walk. Live such that there is nothing people can stumble over in your life. Walk worthy of Christ. Live right and people will ask you questions about why you are the way you are. The more you are around people, the more obvious and the more important the way you live becomes. We want to be worthy of w hat God has invested in and trusted to us. Feel your responsibility to the gospel. Pass it on. You received it from someone else; give it to someone else. You may be the source that God uses to stir a heart. God may use you to cause people to think about their eternal destination. God wants each of us to carry the gospel and be an example. Ask God for what he has for you to do. Care enough to speak up for Jesus. If we shirk our responsibility, people will die lost because we just didn’t care. Be aware of the opportunities that come your way, and publish the gospel to those that come into your life. Share the gospel with others.
