People prepared for Y2K because they were afraid that something might happen. Our fears can lead us to do strange things. (The FUD factor - fear, uncertainty and dread.) Our fears and emotions trigger actions that we wouldn't take if we had overcome the fears. Our lives are driven by the things that we fear.
2 Timothy 1:6-8
God didn't give us the spirit of fear. He would deliver us from the overpowering effect of fear. In Paul's day, persecution was there. Their lives were in danger, and they had reason to fear. Because of God, we don't have to let fears ruin our lives. Fears will come, but we don't have to be dominated by them. Fears are nearly always due to "what ifs" - which may or may not be groundless. You don't have to be driven by fear. Fears can put barriers between us and those that would help us. God can help us to go through the things that we fear. Paul had every reason to fear man, but he didn't let fears overcome him. When God gives us victory over fear, we are free to serve him as we need and want to.
He wanted to know how frail he was that he might see things as they are. People are often troubled for no reason. You can save and save and save and still be living in fear of poverty. Riches won't free you from fear. We need to learn to trust God implicitly. What do we have to be afraid of when we are trusting God? "What wait I for?" We can have our faith in God. He can take whatever comes and turn it for our good.
Psalms 127:1, 2
Except God build the house, your work is for nothing. Without God all we'll know is that there is trouble, and then what? Many a man thought he would keep God's church. You can watch for the trouble, but without God to keep, it's useless to watch. Worrying doesn't take care of the problem. Often you can simply watch and see what happens. We do a lot of watching, but God is in control. He does something. We need to learn to put some things in God's hands because "there's nothing I can do."
Christ was asleep and the disciples were a "bit concerned" about water coming in the boat. "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" Fearfulness and faithlessness go together. Things will come and there may be fear. When this happens, take the fears to God and get victory over them. Our faith needs to take hold when fear seems to strike. Faith in God will make a difference. Through faith we can have victory over our fears.
Lean on the Lord - who will or should I fear? When you have confidence in God there is no need to fear what others might do. David had the Lord on his side. Don't let fear get hold of your heart. v. 4 Stay focused on God and everything else can work out fine. God knows best. As long as God is with us everything will be ok.
"The Lord is on my side..." Be on his side and you don't have to fear. Will you cease to be on God's side because of what someone else did? No, what others do won't change it. Only YOU can change whose side you're on. If you stay faithful, NO ONE can take you off God's side. God's side is the winning side.
Don't let fear and trouble drive you... give it to God. Live with the spirit of love, power and a sound mind.
