2 Timothy 1:6-8
Paul was putting Timothy in remembrance to stir up the gift he had. God has given us the spirit of power and of love and a sound mind. The world would put forth that we stay in a powerless state even after we come to God. We can have the power and courage to live godly in a sinful world. This was God's intent. The only way we can live godly before others is by the power of God. We can have an interest and concern for everyone we meet. A sound mind is a good thing. The ability to think clearly is important for us. Clear thinking and fear don't go together. A spirit of fear can do real damage in our life. Don't let fears overcome you. God sent Jesus that we could have victory over our fears.
He's talking of how Jesus came and died for us. He was completed by the things that he suffered. He was fearless in the face of many things. Fear brings bondage. Christ died to bring freedom from fear. Do what God tells you to do and don't worry about what might happen. God knows what is best. We may think we know what is best, but we don't. Put your trust in God. Fear is an impediment to trusting in God and in your fellowman. Fear has bondage and we want to be free. The truth will help you see that the things you may fear are not things to be fearful of at all.
Hebrews 13:5, 6
He has said, "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee..." and because of this "...We may boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." We don't have to fear others; God is with us. Our confidence is not that the world is getting better, but that God is with us and he will not leave us. He will stick closer than a brother. We have Jesus with us at all times and whatever we encounter, Jesus is big enough to "whup" it. If you have God as your helper, you have all the help you will need. You can bear physical abuse by God's strength if you encounter some. You don't have to stand and defend your reputation. You can overcome it all with God as your helper. It isn't what men can do, but what God can do. Stay on the Lord's side.
1 John 4:16-18
We've known and believed the love of God to us. Because of this love, we know his promises are true. He loved us when we were unlovable. The love of God makes us like him. "There is no fear in love." Love overcomes fear enough to say, "I do." The love of God can help us still take interest in people even when they disappoint us. The devil would bring suspicions and fears of others. Love casts out fears. We want to be motivated by the love of God. Fear has torment. The devil would love to torment us. God has given the victory over fear. If we will trust God there is peace and comfort and joy. God is the only one who can really set us free. He is able to take whatever comes our way and turn it around for good. The victory is found in Jesus. He will help us overcome and stay true.
He wanted them to remember what they had endured. People sometimes persecute to see if people really intend to stick to what they said. Their confidence was knowing they had a better and enduring substance in heaven. In heaven we've got something better than what we have down here. Heaven's better than this. It's better than any millennium. Heave is lasting. Don't throw aside heaven. Don't let fears take your confidence. Nothing man can do can hurt or change what is in heaven. No matter what they do, they can't touch what is in heaven. You can throw it away, though. Don't throw it away. Don't let the devil take your confidence in God.
