Matthew 6:22, 23
The light of the body is in our spiritual eye. "If thy eye be single..." You want your eyes to be able to focus. If you couldn't focus, you can take in light but you can't see much. Spiritually, we need to get our eyes focused on the things of God. Our spiritual vision is our ability to understand. People make allowance for sin, yet, if the whole body is full of light, where is the place for sin? The soul and the body work together. Spiritual things should spill over into every part of our life. There is no true separation of "church and state" for a saint. Every part of our life should be touched by the things of God. If we lose the understanding of God, we might still be able to carry on a form, but how great is that darkness. We need to have that which Christ brought in our heart and soul - not just a mental understanding. We want to always be ready and willing to go about the master's business. We want God's presence with us always.
These found "singleness of heart." They were steadfast. As these found Christ, he became the central issue with them. He was all that mattered. Other parts of life must be taken care of, but Christ was/is central in all.
Are we heavenly people in an earthly environment? or are we an earthly people looking for a heavenly environment? These mentioned lived here on earth in faith of the promises. We should be persuaded of what God has promised us. People get intellectually convinced things are truth, but people need to take hold of it and make it part of their life. This taking hold of makes us "strangers and pilgrims" here. We're headed on our way home. "...if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned." We need to lose sight of the past and the world ... else opportunity to return to sin will be there. God would have us establish our home in heaven and be "homesick" for heaven. Have a focus on God and his will, and you will be blessed. Be single-minded in the search of the heavenly country. You will find true wealth in Christ.
"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." God can move on our understanding and help us to grasp the things he'd have for us. He has wisdom, understanding and light for us. He'd give to ALL men liberally, but we have to seek him. He has enlightenment for us. Meditate in the law of God. Contemplate the word, and observe, and see what you can find. In the rush we could miss things. Stop and think and observe. God can shine a little more light on it. Take time to meditate on the things of God. He can help anyone to understand the word if they'll ask.
2 Corinthians 11:1-3
Paul had a genuine concern for these. He wanted to make sure they were still with the one, Christ. "Lest you be turned aside and have a little of God's way and a little of your way." We need to stay singularly focused on God and his way. Christ needs to be the center. Christianity needs to be a total part of our life - an influencing factor in all aspects of life. Don't be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. Christ needs to be the focus of our life. God has the grace for a people, a heavenly people, to live on this earth and travel to our home with the Father in heaven. Have a singleness of mind. What would Jesus do?
