Life for an Idealist in a Non-Ideal WorldBro. David Chancellor

This scripture tells us Jesus went about doing good, healing the oppressed and God was with him. Many have the ideal that if they do good, they'll get good back. This isn't always the case. Not everyone liked Jesus... and he did more good than we could ever do.
This is the picture mankind had of Jesus. It was their reaction to Jesus. There were times when Jesus was viewed as popular, but ultimately, he ended up despised and rejected of men.
These sought him because of handouts. Sometimes it seems like we are getting good back, but it could be that these, too, are just after handouts. Jesus knew these weren't so much sold on Jesus, but on what he could give them.
This is how it should have been. Praise, excitement and rejoicing in the presence of one that did such good were right.
Jesus was put to death for the good things that he did. It wasn't for anything bad. The Pharisees had begun to fear that all that good would cost them their place and their nation. Because of the selfishness of mankind, this world is not ideal. People may respond bad to our good intentions. It was "Hosanna" one day, and "Crucify Him" the next. Jesus was seeking good for men's souls - not to snatch the nation from them. Because of the selfishness of men's hearts, Jesus was put to death. Don't be discouraged if others disappoint you, but keep on doing good.
2 Corinthians 12:14-15
These had found God through Paul's preaching. He did not seek to be a burden to them, but to help them. He gave to them as a parent to his child. We might love others, but it doesn't mean that they love us. Sometimes it will be that way; the more you love, the less you get back. Even if you don't get back what you expect, still love people. It should flow out from you. Love needs to be such that we give expecting nothing in return. Treat people like you want to be treated. If you don't get the expected response, go on loving them anyway.
Sometimes even in marriage you won't always get what you expect. (i.e. You might get her flowers and she was wanting candy, thus a different response than expected.) No matter what happens, keep on loving. Don't let an unexpected response turn you from what is right. There will be times when you feel like you give and you get nothing back. When seeking souls, the challenge is to keep doing when you don't get any sign of encouragement.
God loved us when we didn't love him back. He loved and cared first. If you will love him back, then it will be a two-way street. If we encounter discouragement from mankind, we can turn to God and find encouragement. When it seems like no one else loves you, God still does. You can find encouragement, help and strength in him. Love others with God's love. God showed us how love ought to work.
Galatians 6:9, 10
Don't be weary in well-doing. Keep on doing it. We will reap if we don't faint. We need a more long-term view of how things are. The reward we are looking forward to is in heaven. Regardless of what happens and how things turn out - keep on loving. There is good in it. Be like Jesus. Do good anyway.
