Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Let your MODERATION be known Moderation isnt something you hear much about. Moderation is: Not going to one extreme or the other. We need something to keep us balanced and stable in our stand lest we be moved to an extreme position. A moderate person looks at something from all angles. Its a balanced life. Its not seeking after too much of a good thing.
Most extremists want others to join them. They push for others to join them. The devil would like to take us to the extreme if he cant get us otherwise. God would have us to be balanced people. He wants us to focus on important things and not go to the extreme. Moderation helps us to think through things and get a settled position. Consider and find Gods will. Take the time to think it through.
2 Peter 1:5-7
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
Temperance is related to moderation. Temperance is self-control. Knowledge is good, but you need to know how to apply it. Temperance helps you to regulate your behavior. Temperance is listed in Galatians 5:23 as one of the fruits of the Spirit. Self-control helps us to know when to or when not to say things to others or do things that would be harmful to others. Not everything that crosses our minds needs to come out of our mouths. God gives us things for ourselves sometimes. Speaking out of turn can cause hurt to others. God can help us to know when to stop talking. We can have self-control to stop when it ventures into something that isnt profitable. Patience can help you with self-control. Self-control isnt just holding in the pressure. Its having the grace of God to help.
Put on, therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Forbearance is bearing with others. This requires some self-control. It takes patience, self-control, and forbearance to help others and to work with them. It can be frustrating if someone is a slow learner, but forbear until they get it. People have trouble learning in different areas. Be patient when working with others, and persevere until they get it. Bear with others. Exercise some control. Dont go over their heads. Paul exercised some restraint rather than give them something too big to handle.
Kids sometimes have trouble understanding things due to limited experience. Parents have to forbear and recall how it was when they were there. Exercise self-control for someone elses good. God can help us to get what we need in doses that we can handle. When helping each other, remember that people can take only so much at once. Forbearance helps to prevent some problems. Realize that carefulness is needed with others. Be sensitive to them and know how to handle your interactions. They may be going through a hard time. Be willing to bear with the trials of others. Forbear, be patient with others and control yourself. This is how to help others. Self-control will help us to bear for the benefit of others. Give a little more; go a little further. Bear as long as is needed for the good of others. If youre doing and bearing a lot, seek God for the grace to continue. There are times when God will send others to bear with us. Thank God for the grace and strength to bear. He can make us able to endure that we might be a testimony for God. These qualities wont be much developed without Gods help. These help others to realize that God can do for them what hes done for us. Be a good example and show forth these graces to others.
