Hearing Gods VoiceBro. Ron Rupé

O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.
To day if you will hear his voice Do you remember when you first heard Gods voice? Do you remember how sensitive you were, and how quick to obey? Were thankful God has strengthened, but we still need to be sensitive to Gods voice. Gods voice stirs something within.
Its not a question of if God will speak, but if we will hear. He speaks all the time, and this entire world, all he has made speaks of him. Will you hear him today? Do you have a desire to hear Gods voice? The way God speaks to you reveals the kind of child you are. It reveals whether youre sensitive or stiff-necked. What kind of message does it take?
For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken tot them any more: (For they could not endure that which was commanded. And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
There are two ways that God can speak to us. This was a loud, fearsome voice. Is this what it takes for God to get a response? What is Gods preferred tone of voice?
1 Kings 19:9-12
And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord, and behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
God likes to speak to people by a still small voice.
Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there. And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. And the people chode with Moses and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the Lord! And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink. And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto them.
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts to drink. And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
Moses took out his frustration on the people. He was punished for this. His people pushed the meekest man over the edge. They were stubborn. What does it take to bring water forth from us? Does God have to use the rod to bring the water? Can he use your devotional time? Can he use songs and testimonies? Must God fetch the water with the rod? Can he just say the word?
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Are you this obedient to the word of the Lord? Can you adjust based only on his word? There are times when a child needs to hear and immediately respond. We need to listen right when God speaks. This doesnt say that well feel the reins pulling us one direction or another. We dont have to be directed by pain.
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
Dont be like a horse. We should be able to be directed by Gods word. We should be able to be instructed by and reasoned with by God.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
God doesnt have cattle drives on his ranch. He doesnt drive us into truth. He doesnt use his whip. Hes provided guides for our faith and helpers for our joy.
2 Corinthians 1:24
Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
Theres a responsibility that falls on your head when you have a good pastor. It is your responsibility to listen. The Spirit will guide you in the truth. Do you have a spirit to be led? If youre hard to guide, the spirit of truth isnt within.
2 Corinthians 7:10-11
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves; yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
This is how it was back then. All these things work in the one who comes to God. How is it today when we hear his voice?
