2 Kings 7:3-16
And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die? If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die. And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there. For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life. And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it. Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household. So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were. And he called the porters; and they told it to the king's house within.
We could sit and look at the mess the world is in, and moan about how it is getting worse. We have a way to help things to get better. Every option looked bad for these lepers. The outlook of some towards God is similar to these. They could do nothing and die, they could follow the world and die, or they could take a chance at what some have portrayed as a miserable existence.
These lepers found that the Syrians they feared werent there. People discover when they come to God, that he is able to do what he said he would do, and their lives become better. Many people turn to God when they have no other option. These lepers realized that they were doing wrong by not telling what they had found. In this day of good tidings, are you holding your peace? This doesnt mean to push people in a corner and preach at them. Live it before people, and let them see the good tidings. Live to be a blessing to others.
Can a congregation prosper and not evangelize? Can it continue to exist and not evangelize? It is to our benefit to share good things with others. Sharing with others can help us to grow and learn, also. When we give, were enriched. We get a blessing because we can help.
In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
Jesus was encouraged by sharing the good news with someone else. Sharing Christ can reenergize you. Serving God is not a spectator sport. You can share God with others by telling them what good things youve found. There is joy found in sharing Christ that you cant find by keeping the good news to yourself.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Were to tell others that God is able to solve whatever problems we may have. Jesus said to go and tell, not sit and wait. Be ready to share what God has done. Carry the gospel wherever you go. Are you serving God all the time? Its a life. This is evangelism, not proselytizing. This is sharing the good news, not adding people to the congregation. When we share the good news, our lives are blessed. Is Jesus on display in your life? Can the world see the difference in you?
