Why Did You Come?Bro. Ron Rupé

And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning john, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings houses. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
What went ye out to see? Why did you come to church? What did you come to see? Why do you keep coming to church? Why did you come to the Lord? Why did you stay with the Lord? Some people come to church to be entertained. People are social beings, so this is understandable, but its not a good reason to be here. Some come to catch a girl/guy. This isnt a good reason to come. Some come for charity. They come for what they can get. This isnt a good reason. Some are compelled to come. Why did you come, and why do you stay? What did I come here for? When I came here, I was fleeing from the wrath to come.
And the same John had his raiment of camels hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
There is a wrath to come. This is Bible truth. There is a judgment day where well give account for our deeds. I came fleeing from the wrath to come. (See Romans 2:8-9.) I came because my sin was drowning me in destruction and piercing me through with many sorrows.
1 Timothy 6:9-11
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
These sins are easy to relate to because theyre like what we did in sin. I am not only fleeing from the wrath to come, but from the present destruction.
O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore. There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly, I go mourning all the day long. For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart. Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee. My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
Im here because I came to the place that this man came to. Im here because sin broke me, and I had no hope. When hope is gone, thats the worst. I came, most of all, because salvation promised to deliver me from all these woes.
I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of the Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
Im here because God delivered me. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling This is what salvation has done for me. This is why I came.
Why do you stay here? The reason I stay: Because I love the Lord. The love of the Lord keeps me here. Were here for the duration. I will call upon the Lord as long as I live. Im here to stay. This love comes from Gods love for us.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
I stay here because he did this for ME. I stay because hes gracious, righteous, and merciful.
I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
We got a taste of something good. God doesnt leave us with just a taste. He fills us up. This is why we stay. Why did you come here? Do you know God? Taste and see that he is good.
