I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
Our testimony should be that we love the Lord because he heard when we cried out to him. Every soul that knows God has cried out to God. Prayer isn't just a ritual. God hears our prayers. Man might reduce it to a ritual, but it shouldn't be. Prayer is coming to God and telling him your needs and desires. Why wouldn't people who have met God in prayer continue to call on him? When you taste something good you want more. God desires that every soul would call on him in their troubles and sorrows. We're thankful he delivers our souls. (For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.) This is the deliverance that David received from God. What has God delivered you from? Has God delivered you from spiritual death? Our eyes are delivered from tears - we've been delivered from that which causes sorrow. There is a deliverance from that which would come between us and God. We can live to please God. God can deliver our feet from falling. We don't have to stumble at the stumblingblocks. Lean on the power of God to get you through the things that would come against you. We can walk before God right here among humanity. Be faithful to God in the trials. The things that come to turn us aside show how much we love God. If we love God above everything else, our feet can be delivered from falling, and we can walk before God in the land of the living.
2 Corinthians 1:8-10
For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which ariseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
Paul speaks of a physical death. He spoke of being taken out and left for dead. Paul's confidence wasn't in himself, but in God. He knew that God had delivered before and he was counting on God. Discouragement may come, but God can deliver you from it. Paul didn't go about all discouraged. God lifted him up and blessed him, and Paul went on. Discouragement may come, but we have to get up and go on. God can give us grace for our disappointments. Paul knew God could get him out of it or bring him through it. He knew he had a reward ahead and God would be his deliverance. God can take us through just as he did Paul. Paul saw deliverance from God from every angle.
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Christ took on a body just like ours. It was a body that could experience death. He was able to feel pain. He did it to destroy the one that had the power of death - the devil. He came to deliver from the fear of death and its bondage. People go to great lengths to preserve the body at the expense of their souls. When we are free from the fear of death, it's a freedom that allows us to stand for God whatever it may cost. The sinner will sell out to preserve his existence. The child of God enjoys life and living, but has found something greater in Christ. We aren't in bondage to the devil. We have found something in God that helps us to stand in the face of difficulty.
2 Timothy 4:14-18
Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his words: Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me. I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever.
Alexander the coppersmith was involved in the trouble Paul faced. Paul didn't desire that those that didn't stand with him be punished. He asked God not to lay it to their charge. God stood with him and strengthened him. He gave Paul the courage to stand. If God stands with you, that's enough. Choose God first whenever you have to make a choice. God stood with Paul against a crowd to preach the gospel. Response isn't necessary. When God tells you what to say, say it. Paul stood and preached to the Gentiles. He had to stand so the tide could turn. Paul was delivered from the opposition of man. "...the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work..." Life will be easier to bear if we know this. Can we trust in God to take us through it? We don't have to defend ourselves. God will defend us. Christ could have been delivered, but he suffered it to deliver us. Do you have the confidence that God can deliver you? God can deliver you from every evil work. God can keep us and bring us through whatever comes against us.
2 Peter 2:6-9
And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
Lot was delivered while Sodom and Gomorrha were destroyed. The world is a wicked place. Humanity is the problem and needs the gospel. God delivered Lot. He knows how to deliver you out of temptation. Temptation is an enticement. God would deliver you from the trials you face. These faced the loss of family and inheritance. God can deliver you from that which would turn you aside. He can help you resist that which would turn you from God. God knows how to help us out. We have him to call on. Be back to back with Jesus. If the world is closing in, draw close to Jesus. God will make the way of escape. Let the Lord make the way. The way of escape is God's grace and spirit. He knows how to deliver his people and to see that those who deserve it will get their just due. This isn't something we should pray for. Pray for the forgiveness of these and be merciful. Find the grace of God to deliver from temptation. We should desire to hear that those who caused trouble were somehow able to find God and be right with him.
Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
The idols were falling under the weight of their people. They weren't able to deliver. God is able to carry us from the day that we are born until the day that we die. From start to finish, he will carry us. He is able to carry and will deliver. God won't get sway-backed. He's able to deliver you, whatever may come. He can take us through to the day of our death, regardless of what may come our way. God's able for each one. He's able to deliver. Whatever it is, God is able to deliver. God is able to provide whatever is needed to bring us through. He's able to deliver you.
