Isaiah 11:1-4

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

This describes and prophesies of Jesus. It tells what he would be like. Picture a man with a big cigar, rings, beer, and cut off jeans. Does this describe a saint or a sinner? Picture a woman with cut hair, makeup, and revealing dress. Does this describe a saint or a sinner? Picture a sailor cussing a blue streak. Does this describe a saint or a sinner? Picture a hippie in court after hes had a haircut and is dressed nice. Why has he changed? The lawyer wants the jury to see a saint. He wants people to picture something other than what is there.

Its natural for us to form an opinion about others by what we see and hear. Human nature judges by how people look. This is why it matters how you look if youd live for God. Jesus was different than we are in this regard. He could see on the inside without being moved by how the outside looked. Just because a person looks like a saint doesnt make them a saint. If bad stuff is coming out, theres bad stuff within. Jesus was able to look at the heart and judge from that was the condition was.

This is the one that we have to deal with. This is Jesus Christ. Hes more than a good man, a great philosopher, or promoter of good theology. Hes the one that we have to do business with.

John 5:26-30

For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

The Son was like the Father. Jesus was like God. He was the Son of God. There isnt any excuse that will work when we stand before God. God committed judgment to Christ, because Christ lived here and understands. Everyone will be resurrected. Jesus didnt teach that there was no hell. Everyone will be resurrected for something. Well face the judgment of Jesus. We all will have to give account to God. What is our life? If we do evil, well be resurrected to damnation. If we do good, well be resurrected to life. We need Jesus to be able to do good. Jesus will judge us by the word of God. As God spoke, thats what well be judged by. This doesnt contradict what Isaiah says. It proves that Christs judgment will be based on Gods word. We need to be careful to keep in line with Gods word. Jesus desired to live out the purpose that he came for. We need to recognize that well be judged by what weve heard from the Father. We need to know what Gods word says, and how to make it part of our lives.

Mark 2:5-9

For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Jesus forgave this mans sins. No doubt the people were dumbstruck. Jesus knew what they were thinking. He answered their unspoken questions. They werent accepting him for who he was. He could answer questions before they were asked. Jesus was the Christ. The Bible establishes that Jesus is the Christ. He came to bring the word to us in a way that we cant avoid.

Luke 9:46-50

Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

They were trying to figure out who would be greatest and probably didnt want Jesus to know about the conversation. He knew about what they were thinking. God knows what were thinking. Jesus recognized the pride that was there. He wants us to be humble. John judged by what he saw, but Jesus saw the heart. It was needful that Jesus be able to judge this way. Jesus encountered obvious sinners and hypocrites. He knew about them both. We need both the inside and outside to look good. You might could fool a human jury by dressing up the outside, but God sees the heart. God expects the inner good to shine through, but he can also see through a good outward appearance that is that only. God knows whats going on in your life. He knows you better than you know yourself. God wants to change the whole man. Evil things come from inside out. We judge by what we see because thats often whats there, but even if it can be hidden from others, God sees.

Matthew 7:1-5

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Christ gives a warning. Be careful about judgment. We could be misled. It doesnt matter what we think. God sees and he will judge. Wed be better off not to hide and to keep things open with God. God can change us if we will take it to him.

Matthew 7:15-20

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

How does this fit with judge not? What kind of fruit do you have? This is what Christ was interested in. How do you recognize a false prophet? They may look good, but arent. How can you tell? Christs disciples are different, in attitudes and other fruits than appearance. Its character coming out. You need the fruits of Gods spirit in your life. We dont want anything unlike Christ hidden in our lives. It can only be accomplished by the blood of Christ. If anything is hidden, take it to Christ, and let him take care of it. Gods Spirit can be on your life, if youll come to him through Christ.
