The Abomination that Makes DesolateBro. David Chancellor

And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
Daniel had received many prophecies from God. Some things wont be understood until God reveals them. There are many practical things here, though. Many shall be purified, and made white We can be purified and made white. and tried There will be trials and things to face. The wicked will continue as they do now. There is an abomination that makes desolate There are consequences to actions. What does abomination mean? It means something worthy of loathing or hatred a disgusting thing. Desolate means forsaken, lonely, or showing the effects of abandonment. There are some things you can do that will cause God to abandon you. If you enter into abomination, God wont overlook it. If you enter into abomination, there will be a desolation that follows.
Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel, Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water: That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day: That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day: (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by; And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:) Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood; And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst: The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven. And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law: So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it; And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger? Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them: And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book: And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day. The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
The people of Israel knew that some abominations would make the land desolate. Today we stand before God and its up to us to determine the relationship. Gods part is settled, but we have a choice to make. We have a responsibility for whatever falls our lot. Because God has provided deliverance, man is without excuse. Even under the law, they didnt have an excuse. They knew what was expected. God will hold everyone accountable. Ignoring God doesnt relieve you of your responsibility to him. Our actions will matter. Well answer for what weve done. A man cant walk with God and continue on in abomination. If you follow abominations, the judgment of God will fall. There is a consequence for sin. Daniel had seen the consequence of people leaving God for sin. You can tell yourself that youre ok, but if there is an abomination there, youre not ok in Gods sight. We can walk to please God, or we can live in disobedience. God doesnt overlook sin and unrighteousness. Sin is a hateful thing. God loathes rebellion against God and his word. We must walk with God if we would not be abandoned. The Israelites were warned. People today need to realize that the warning is still there. There may be things that we dont understand, but live what has been revealed to you. Are you doing what God has shown you to do? You dont have to know everything. You just have to know that you need to be forgiven and that the abomination needs to stop. Jesus has the power to free from sin and help us to walk with God. The gospel will change your life.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Paul describes the last days. This describes how much of the world is today. Men shall be lovers of their own selves People will be selfish. You can feel happy about yourself when youre in love with God. Theres a love that can make you love others more than yourself. Lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God People seek enjoyment more than they seek God. Men wont make it if theyre more interested in following pleasure than they are in following God. Somewhere you need to find God. We live in a society that loves pleasures more than God. You wont find God at the movies or in front of a TV. You cant fill your mind with these things and be pleasing to God. It wont be peace if youre living an immoral life. If pleasure has something wrong with it, it needs to go. God doesnt smile on wickedness. Abomination on six days of the week cant be taken care of by a pretension of holiness on one day of the week. God can show us how to live. We have to focus on living our own lives. We cant allow wicked things to continue. We can walk with God, but it requires that some things be put aside. Be separate from the things that are wrong. Leave off the sin business by the power of God. If people say that sin has to continue, theyre denying the power of God. God gives the same invitation Come and Ill give you rest. God can make a change in you. The blood of Jesus can wash away sin, deliver you from the power of it, and give you power to live a holy life. Dont make excuse for sin. You can be freed and have the presence of God dwelling in the heart. You dont have to be desolate. Get you out of the way. Turn to God and serve him.
