1 Peter 1:23-25; 2:1-3
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
This speaks of being born again by the incorruptible Word of God. This points out the enduring nature of the word of God. Mankind is as grass. We need to follow God and his word, not man. Dandelions flower and fall away pretty fast. The glory of man is like this. The glory of God is more enduring. Jesus wasn't just a "star". The flesh didn't make him what he was. It wasn't an outward comeliness that made him who he was. Jesus endures because of the word of God in him. Because the word endures forever, lay aside the things of the flesh, and take the word of God. The word is the thing that will last. For life to have meaning and value, we must get hold of that which is enduring and lasting. The word of the gospel is what Jesus provided for your soul. This will take your life and make it as God would have it to be. We need to know on whom our faith is fixed. Because of Christ we have hope of a resurrection. Get hold of the word and find out for yourself what it means. The word of God will take you through. We have the right, the privilege, and the responsibility to find out what the word says, and what it means. Desire the word of God just like a baby desires milk. The word of God will take you beyond the fleshly things to a personal relationship with Christ.
Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinder cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened, And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low; Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
This describes the condition of man. "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth..." Life is short, and it goes pretty fast. Know God before you get old. Eternity waits for each one. Learn about God before some spiritual changes come to make coming to God become more difficult. People who wait find it more difficult to find God. Even if you've waited, don't let the devil cheat you out of it all. Statistics indicate that if you don't find God while you're young, you may not find God at all. God still reaches out, and is still willing to save. However, time is passing, and it is working something in your life. Is it taking from you the benefits that God can provide? Are you missing out on the guide? This is a reminder to us all. Life passes quickly. There's no enduring quality there if it is all spent in sin. Those that focus on this life miss out. Life passes, but the word of God endures. It brings a lasting peace to the soul. The word of God stands sure, and stays the same. The things that were three for the apostles are still there today. Government must be realistic. There is something in the heart of man that doesn't get along with others. The word of God can work on the soul of man and make him as he was intended to be.
2 Corinthians 4:13-18
We have the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
We have the same spirit of faith. Our inward man is renewed day by day, even if our outward man is wearing out. We can be renewed and strengthened by the power of God. When we get on the word of God, we're laying up treasure in heaven. What you put in heaven in lasting. Get hold of eternal things. The word of God is true, lasting, and proves what it says. You're not going to live forever. Build on the word of God. We're as grass. Even in another 50 years, some that are here today will have gone on. Men get wrapped up in some things, things that have no eternal value. The word of God and your relationship with God is what matters. What are you doing with the salvation provided by Christ? We need to know things are right between us and God. The things of this world are temporary. Put these aside and seek after God. Taste and see that the Lord is gracious.
