Seeking and BelievingBro. David Chancellor

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Without faith, it's impossible to please God. Faith is a necessary element. The one that comes to God must believe that he is. There is a relationship between faith and seeking. You must believe there is a God before you will seek him. You must believe when you seek. Believing and seeking go together. People are often seeking the wrong thing. We need to seek after him. We need to seek the power of his resurrection. To be truly blessed, the answer is to seek to know God. He has that which is to our benefit, and will meet our needs if we will just seek him.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord. There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.
The fool says that there is no God. That one won't be seeking for God. This says in our natural state that there is none that does good or seeks God as he ought. God sent Jesus to bring us words from heaven and draw us to him. Mankind needed some understanding imparted to understand that there is a God and that he needs to seek him, and his help and presence. When men find God, it brings a change in the life. There are many that don't understand about God. That's why the saved are commissioned to help others understand that there is a God that humanity needs to meet. Man without God is in a terrible state; altogether corrupt and doing abominable things. Men need to seek and turn to God. God has something much better and different than that which they have.
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
This shows how it is possible for mankind to seek after the wrong things. Those who weren't people of God sought after these things. Those that are people of God will seek after God. These things have their place, but these things shouldn't come before God. The emphasis of the gospel is not these things. These needs should be put aside so that you can get to God and know him. When we seek God, we will find that which satisfies the soul and makes us happy. Money won't buy happiness or satisfy the soul. People can find happiness in spite of poverty if they can find God. Seek to find God. The person that has found God realizes that those without God are missing out. If you want real happiness, find God. Knowing God smiles on your life brings happiness. You can know that he is pleased with you, by the relationship you have with him.
When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
Jesus sent the people away after feeding the 5000. These people later came looking for Jesus. They wanted to know how he'd gotten to the other side of the sea. He asked them, "Why are you here?" Some people's interest in God is only in the "loaves and fishes." Some people want what God can provide, but aren't seeking God. These didn't grasp that this was God come down to man. They were just thinking that the loaves and fishes sure were good. Jesus is to be worshipped and held in awe. We seek him for his own sake, not for what he can give us. Humanity often misses out because they are looking for the gift instead of the giver. They look for the reward instead of looking for the rewarder. Seek to live in his presence. Seek to know God. Moses had God as his personal friend. We can have that same relationship with God today. He has made it where we can come to him boldly and freely.
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
James was trying to help them see where their trouble was at. You won't succeed if you want to serve God in your own way. You won't have a close relationship with God if you are seeking your own way. Taking advantage of others is not the way up. The way up is to humble yourself before God, where he can be exalted in you. The desire shouldn't be that you be lifted up, but that God will. Ask after God. Seek to know him. When you do this, you're not asking amiss. You can receive. Godliness is found in God, not in what material things you have or don't have. We can ask and receive, seek and find, God.
Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
These people were way out of line with God. The prophet tells them to seek God while he may be found. Seek him while he is speaking to you. There will come a day when God's dealing with man will cease. Today is the day of salvation. Call upon him while he is near. Know that there is a God, but seek further than that. Even the devil believes that there is a God. Begin to seek God while he is near. Seek to know him and enjoy his presence. Seek to fit into his plan. His plan is that all men would be saved. When you begin to seek after God, there are some things you have to leave behind. Sometimes the way may be hard, but seek after God. He can be found of you just as he has been found of others. Though your sins may be like a mountain between you and God, go over the mountain. God will pardon. Real happiness is found in God.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
We don't want our prayers to be a one-way conversation. We want God to answer. We want God to speak back. We want the answer within ourselves. We should desire to seek his face. Seek God out. Seek after and focus on God. God gave us a mediator through his Son Jesus Christ. Do we desire that God not leave us? He said he wouldn't, but do we desire him to stay? The basis of our faith is seeking after God. If we draw nigh to God, he will draw nigh to us. If we seek after God, we will find him and enjoy the benefits of salvation. People fail in seeking because they seek for something other than God. God isn't far from any one of us. It will be told us what to do if we seek God. You can have a close walk with God. Seek after God; seek him first, and he will be found.
