Denying Christ

2 Timothy 2:11-13

It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

This is speaking of Jesus. If we are dead with him, well live with him. There is an experience where we die that we might live. We turn our backs on sin so that we can begin anew. There is a life-changing effect in that belief. Well be able to live the life that he wants us to live. The Christian life is only a challenge if you havent died to sin. If we suffer, we shall also reign. Most people would like to reign, but are we willing to suffer? Its not a popular thing to follow Christ. Religion in public today allows anyone but Christ. People may not understand that Christ comes first. If we suffer a bit, but keep our eyes on Christ, well reign. If we deny him, he also will deny us Theres more to denial that what we might think. In Peters case, fear kicked in and he didnt stand. Denying Christ is more than denying his existence. Hes speaking here of unbelief about who he was and what he is to humanity. Unbelief is also to deny Christ. To not accept him as who he is, is to deny him. There are things that could pull you away from Christ. He was Jesus, the Christ, the only Savior for mankind. People had to make a choice between the long-awaited Savior, and their family and friends. In that environment, you had to be convinced. There were, and still are, people that believe because their lives have been changed by the power of Christ.

1 John 2:21-25

I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

He wasnt writing to let them know, because they already knew. Not everyone accepts that Jesus is the Christ. Some of these other religions had people with good things to say, but Jesus is the only one that saves. To deny that Jesus is the Christ is to deny him. Just accepting that he existed is not the level of acceptance that matters. It must be real and personal to us he died for me! You can love your mother and enjoy her company, but there is only one Savior Jesus Christ. Your heritage wont save you. We dont want to be indifferent. He was the Christ, and is the only mediator between God and us. You wont honor the Father if you wont honor the Son. Is it too much to accept and to commit to him for eternal life? If we would be reconciled to God, we should be glad to go through Christ.

Acts 3:11-17

And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.

Peter began to point out that he and John didnt heal this man, but that the power of God did. Man cant change your life, but the power of God can. This mans life was radically changed by the power of God. We can ask in Jesus name that the Father can be glorified in the Son. Theyre both lifted up when we acknowledge Christ. Peter recognized that it was ignorance that caused them to crucify Christ. He wanted them to recognize Christ for who he was. You can put your trust in Christ even though you denied him before. The message is that the denial doesnt have to continue. Jesus is going to come again. We need to accept him now as our Savior, so that our conscience will be clear before God. We want you to know him yourself. Get your information from him yourself. Get to know him firsthand. Christ is the one we invite people to come to know.

John 12:44-50

Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

This is the Jesus that were speaking about. He wasnt trying to turn them from God, but he was trying to reconcile them to God. Jesus was trying to help them understand the message that would save them. Jesus came and spoke what God gave him to speak. If you reject Christ, youve also rejected God. The Old Testament points ahead to Jesus because God defined the way. Jesus is the only means of our salvation. Only his blood will wash away our sins. You wont find reconciliation and peace until you find him. Hes the only hope for mankind. Hes our avenue to God. We need to keep him first. Jesus came to save. He loved us above all others. How could we help but accept such love, compassion, and concern? How could we settle for our own ideas, intellect, and way, when he brought Gods love to all mankind? Make him the center of your life.
