The wonderful thing about the gospel is that it is for everyone.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
There was prophecy of a day coming where God would make a new covenant for all mankind. The old covenant is no longer in force; it didnt last. The new covenant is written on the heart; the old covenant was written in stone and was unbending, unyielding and demanding. The new covenant is written in our hearts to be lived and made a part of our lives. They shall all know me. The significance of this is that even among the Israelites under the old covenant there were those that didnt know him.
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Paul sums up the change that is made by the gospel. Christ is our priest and serves as the go-between for God and us. He doesnt have to make a sacrifice for himself first. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant The priesthood has changed since Christ came on the scene. We can all be acquainted with and interact with God ourselves. We can offer gifts and sacrifices to God through Christ.
1 Timothy 2:3-6
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Christ is the one mediator between God and man. Preachers are here to point you to the mediator Christ. Preachers arent the mediator. Having things settled with the preacher doesnt necessarily mean that things are settled with God and you. Theres just one mediator and he doesnt delegate his responsibilities to others. Every man is invited to come to Jesus. Dont stop until you get to Jesus. When you find him, youll find God.
1 Peter 2:3-5
If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Christ was disallowed by men, but he was chosen of God. God made him our high priest and go-between. When you come into a right relationship with God, you become a priest, also. Its different from Christs priesthood, in that we cant offer anything to atone or redeem or to make right. Our priesthood doesnt distinguish between ourselves. You no longer have to have a man as a go-between. God is personally at work in your heart and your life. If you would be right with God, you must come through Christ.
1 John 2:24-29
Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
Abide in what you heard from the start. Our salvation is in Christ. Build on Christ as the one mediator between God and man. When you get the Spirit of God within, the law will be within. Youll have the heavenly teacher. From the least to the greatest, we can all come to him. You can know God, be acquainted with him, and hold communion with him. God provided one mediator for every man Christ. We need to know how things are between God and us. Put your belief, trust and confidence in God.
2 Corinthians 1:19-24
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth. Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
Christ was God come down to man. He was the Son of God. The Spirit of God in our hearts establishes that we are his. We cant be the deciding factor in anyone elses faith. We dont have dominion over the faith of others. The faith you have toward God is determined by where you stand with him. Be sure you know that God is within you. We can encourage and build up, but your standing with God depends on you getting to God and establishing a personal relationship with him. An ambassador cant make you a citizen. We cant make you a child of God. You must go through Christ. You ultimately must know God yourself. It is important that we do business with Christ. The blessing is that we can know God himself. You can get to God just like anyone else. He can feel our pain, and he has compassion on us and will make a difference. Christ knows how to solve the problems of all mankind if theyll just turn to him.
