Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Christ was telling them that he was going back to be with the Father and that he had their interest in mind. He was trying to encourage them to be faithful. He wasnt hiding things from them about his Father and heaven. I go to prepare a place for you. He says this to us, too. We can make this personal: He went to prepare a place for me. Hes coming back. Hes preparing us for a trip ahead. Were going to be where he is. We want to prepare and be ready to go. Usually, were looking forward to going places. Yet, most people put off preparation for this journey. Hes making ready for us to be there. Are we making our preparations to go? Christ is making preparation for souls in heaven, but many souls wont be there because they never made preparation for the trip. Saints are looking forward to the day. We enjoy here, but we are looking forward to being there. Well get to be with him and there wont be a feeling of separation.
2 Corinthians 5:1-8
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
While we take care of this body, were looking forward to a different one. As this house wears out, its nice to know that we have another one. We have that which Christ went to prepare waiting for us. Were trying to get all the good we can out of this one before we put on the next one. Theres something better waiting for us than what we have now. We have an eternal house waiting. Whether present or absent with God, what matters most is that we be accepted by him. Whose acceptance do we want, Gods or mans? Demus left Paul and the others because he was more concerned about the acceptance of man than he was about the acceptance of God. We may be challenged at times, but we need to keep God first and keep our focus on heaven.
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
We are living for heaven; looking forward to going there. This house will be exchanged for one that will be eternal. This mud house will be traded for a mansion. He can bring it into what hed have it to be. Hes changed how we live and our outlook. He wants us to work for him now and stay in the place hed have us to be.
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
Christ prayed that we would be able to enjoy the presence of God. The presence of the Spirit of God brings the glory of God on us. He wants us to be with him. Think of what it will be to be where he is. We enjoy the presence of God in a similar way to how we enjoy the presence of loved ones on the phone. Being in his presence in heaven will be so much better. The love in Christ towards us causes us to love him. When love is there, its natural to want to be together. This is also true of Christ and his people. They want to be where he is. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
In this life we want to know that we are the children of God. We need to have such an assurance that it will be unshaken. We need to know we are the children of God. As a child, we have an inheritance. We have a part in God, just like Christ does. Christ wanted us to have a part. We will suffer some things for and with Christ. We wont always be accepted. Suffering isnt always inflicted by the wicked. Religious men inflicted suffering on Christ. Because he lived what his Father taught, he suffered. The sufferings arent worthy to be compared to heaven. Whatever we go through down here will be worth it. Were on a journey and the things we suffer along the way will be worth it when we reach heaven. Dont lose sight of heaven. Whatever suffering it takes, itll be worth it to make heaven.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
The things we have here are temporary. Dont let the things of earth become hindrances to your making it to heaven. The biggest challenge here is to find something and keep it. Its like trying to keep a fresh tomato until January. You just almost cant. Keeping things here is a continual struggle. We want to make preparations for heaven and keep our hearts there. If well keep our hearts there, well make it. We can be good workers for God. Put treasure back towards heaven. This life has its duties and responsibilities, but ultimately, theres heaven.
But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Remember when you found Christ and the things you have endured (persecution). The Jews that saw Jesus as the Son of God suffered persecution. They lost family, friends and inheritance. They took it joyfully because they had something better and more lasting in God. We have something better. Dont throw it away. Dont let people talk you out of it. They stuck with Jesus. If you know you have Jesus, dont get pulled away to something else. Christ is coming again. He that shall come will come. Know within yourself that things are right between you and God. That which you have found in Christ, stick with it. If you turn aside, Gods acceptance will be gone. Get hold of Christ and dont let go. Hold on until you get to heaven. Whatever comes, keep your eyes on Jesus. Dont be turned aside to anything else.
