Many things will happen in the world, but if you have God, you have something to be happy about, and you will make it through all right.
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
This is the message of Christ that Peter preached on the day of Pentecost. He was telling them that Jesus was Christ. He used David's words of prophecy to make the point that Jesus fulfilled the prophecy. "... let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ..." (or Savior). This was the one they had been looking for. Yet, they were looking for someone to defeat the Romans or establish a world-wide rule. However, this wasn't the kind of kingdom that Christ came to establish. We need to find Christ, the one who can deliver from the power of sin. You must know the Savior. He must save us before he can be Lord to us. If you've not been saved from sin, someone else is your lord, and will lead you astray. We need to come under the lordship of Christ. Change masters. We are set free from the other master, and Christ becomes our master. We aren't sorry that we are serving Christ. We can be happy that our master, Christ, is around, telling us what to do. Our lives need to be given over to Christ to be used as he sees fit.
2 Timothy 2:1-4
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
Christ is our source of strength. We can't be strong in ourselves. Determination is not enough. We need God's help. The determination causes us to seek God's help. The grace in Christ is our help. We can find strength in God. We have grace to bring us through the things we face. Share what you have found with others. When Christ is your master, there are things that he expects you to accomplish. There is a work to do for God. "Endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." There is a hardness to endure. The fight is not all the hardness that soldiers endure. Most of a soldier's time is not spent fighting. The hardness is not all endured in the fight. The accommodations aren't like home. Not all the hardness you endure is in the actual fight. Part of the hardness is figuring out what you ought to be doing and what will turn you aside. We should desire to please him who has chosen us. The difficult endeavor can bring happiness. We can find that which is pleasing and satisfying in working for God. When Christ stopped at the well he was tired, yet when his disciples returned, he was energized. Before it was over, because he was faithful, the whole town came out to listen. We may have to make a choice between what we want and what God wants. Who are we trying to please? We need to choose what God would have us to do if he would be our Lord. Pleasing God is more than "church work." WE need to be faithful to help in that area, but the work of God is bigger than "church work." There are activities that we do to let people know that we care. We may not be a social services agency, but some things we do can open a door. We don't want to be entangled with the things of the world. Our life is found in Christ. We don't want to have the same way of being and doing that we left behind. To lift up God, we need to interact with others.
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: thou war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
If Christ would be Lord, he needs to be the light and center of our lives. With him as our light and salvation, we don't have to fear. Failure waits at every turn if we go in our own strength. "Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear..." Why? We don't fear because we are depending on God. It doesn't matter who the host is. The host will tell you what you want to hear, or justify what you want to do. Try to find what God says about the situation. Lean on God as your strength. Desire to serve God above everything else. Keep this as your central purpose and goal. Find what God has to say, and don't settle for anything else. Walk in the plain path. It may not be the most popular or the most fun, but keep to it. Keep Christ as your Savior. We can't stand on our own. Wait on the Lord. Keep your desire, focus and purpose centered on God. Don't let things turn you from God. If it turns you from God, it is not your friend. Stand in the current and point the other way. We can stand before God, regardless of what difficulties come. God needs to be the light and salvation of our lives. Don't let your blessings be your destruction. Seek God with all your heart.
