He will instruct and teach in the way he would have us to go. We want to be guided by the one who can see what's ahead. He can illuminate the road of life before us and help us to handle what faces us. God's work is a teaching work. His faith is an instructive faith. He wants to help us to know how to get through things and wants us to have understanding. A horse or mule has no idea of where it is supposed to go. You have to just point them in the direction and they'll go. God would not have us to be externally driven; he wants us to have some understanding. Our service shouldn't be forced, but out of understanding. Things HAVE been done with horses and mules, but it isn't the same as having understanding. God wants us to grow in understanding so he can lead us in the way that is right.
The Lord would have all mankind to learn and understand and know what's right. Sometimes people refuse to learn or listen. There's a need to be taught, and we have to be teachable. God's paths are good and a pleasant way to go. His guidance is the best we can get.
The natures of men without God are like the beast. God wants to get through to us; he'll counsel and lead us in the way we need to go. He'll help us to know what to do in situations that face us. Ask God, "What do I do about this?" He WILL help us to know. We're looking forward to being with God in heaven. It is the presence of God that makes heaven heavenly.
God has promised to guide, direct, hear and help - even if it means going through some hard things - you'll learn in it and grow and progress. Sometimes it seems like too much, but through application of what you learn you'll get through. "This is the way, walk ye in it..." God can see the path; he can guide us step by step. He sees the dangers. Tune your ears to hear the voice of God. We want to hear God's voice when we start to get out of line. We want to be responsive to God when he speaks to us. Be sensitive to his voice.
God will bring those who cannot see the path to himself. He will open up their understanding. A straight path is the best way to keep your bearings. If you get confused, find your bearings by what you KNOW is right.
Deuteronomy 8:1, 2
God led them 40 years in the wilderness. It was not a 40 year trip, but God did it to humble and prove them. God may do the same for us - to see what's in our heart. He may lead us through some tough, unpleasant things, battles or troubles. Don't think God quit leading because the road got rough. We don't want to question 'cause things get tough. When God shows us what to do and where to go, we don't want to question him. He knows, he sees, and he cares. Stick with what he shows you. God knows how to get you through what looks impossible. If it accomplishes his purpose we want to follow where he leads.
John 16:12, 13
Christ could have told them more but they couldn't handle it at that point. There were some things they couldn't bear then. The Spirit is to be our guide. We need him to be with us always and in every situation, to guide and help. The Spirit can be there at all times. When we get into difficult situations we need God's guidance. We need to see that we're dependent on him to lead us. Our life will accomplish more if we'll let God chose the path. If we don't let God guide, our potential successes will be failures. We need God to show the way. If God says "go" let's go. Let God's Spirit guide.
