Sin Is it a curable malady?Bro. David Chancellor

There are things from time to time that pass through mankind that cause great problems. In our time, this malady is AIDS. In Africa, there are millions that will die from it. It is a very devastating malady. Because of the problems this malady creates, mankind is trying very hard to find a cure for what, right now, is incurable. People die once, in a sense, when theyre told that it is incurable. They look for a cure, and are waiting for it.
There is a malady that has affected mankind much longer than AIDS. This malady, some tell us, is incurable and that there is no hope and no help for those afflicted by it. This malady is sin. We have some thoughts for sinful men. If you could sit down with a sinner and talk to him, what would you say? What would you like to share with him about that malady of sin?
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Sin is a universal condition. Some people take comfort in that; everyone has it, everyone does it. As we consider that, give a little thought to this: If you had AIDS, would it be any consolation to know that everyone else has it, if nothing can be done to fix it? Theres not much comfort in that. Its pretty sad to realize that all mankind is afflicted with sin.
1 Timothy 1:15
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
The apostle Paul experienced this affliction. Some find comfort in the fact that even great men are afflicted with this malady. Does this make you feel better? If I were dying of cancer, the fact that the case of the patient in the nest room was worse than mine wouldnt be much comfort.
1 John 1:10
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Theres no denying the problem. Many would like to deny the problem. If you just forget it it wont go away. Saying you dont have it doesnt make it go away. No one is naturally born good. Some people deal with the problem in their own way.
2 Corinthians 10:12
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
They compare themselves to someone else. Does this help the condition? The sinner takes solace in the fact that hes not as bad as someone else. You have the same disease. Its destroying your life just like its destroying the other persons life. Patting yourself on the back because youre not dying as fast as the other guy doesnt help much. You can compare yourself to others and take up a little religion. You can be like the Pharisees, but it doesnt help if you still have the malady. Commending yourself doesnt solve the problem of sin. Too many base their hope of heaven in not being as bad as the next guy. They try to do enough good to outweigh the bad. Sadly, this wont cure you. It wont solve the problem.
1 Timothy 1:12-16
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
Paul described his condition as a sinner. He had the malady, but he found someone with a cure. The world needs to hear that Jesus can cure the malady of sin. Jesus is the only one who can cure the malady. Buddha cant, Mohammed cant, and Confucius cant. Paul tells us what he was cured of. He had been a bad sinner, but he found the cure. Dont go away thinking that Paul wasnt cured; he was. He obtained mercy. Christ showed him longsuffering. He took Paul fighting him, but he finally cured him. Paul says, He cured me so that others can know that they can be cured, too. If I were talking to a sinful man, Id want him to know that he could be cured. Too many are being told that there is no cure, but heres the good news. There is a cure Jesus. Paul says, I was, but now Im not. He didnt continue to have the malady. He was cured. Lest there be a question, Paul says to them, Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. (1 Timothy 5:20) If Paul still sinned, he would have had to be rebuked from time to time. His sins would have had to be pointed out for the entire world to see. There is an awful stench that arises from an uncured malady. If people have come face to face with God, they ought to be cured. Jesus doesnt do a halfway job. By his stripes we are healed. Our malady caused him to be beaten. Jesus was the only one who was ever spared this malady. He came to cure the problem, and deliver us from the malady of sin.
Sin doesnt seem so bad at first, but it leads to other things. The more advanced stages are hard and destroy lives. Before your life is destroyed, seek the one with the cure. Sin leaves some terrible scars. The sooner you get the cure, the better. It will save you some scars. Why go on with the malady when theres a cure?
1 John 1:8-9
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Not only does God forgive, but he also cleanses us from all unrighteousness. We can be forgiven of what weve done. The cleansing is the cure. God can remove both the stain and the power of sin. The sinner needs to know that there is one who can cleanse the heart and make it pure. We can be kept from the evil. The cleansing works in such a way as to keep us pure. There is a cure for sin. Sin is a terrible malady, and we know the awful damage it does. Just because its a universal problem doesnt mean that God ignores it. Hes provided a cure. God has made a way to deal with sin in this life. Dont put off receiving the cure. Humanity is suffering under sin while a cure is available. They ignore the problem. There is no excuse for this when the cure is there. Do you know the Savior? Have you been healed? Come to Jesus and find the cure.
