2 Corinthians 10:12-13
We don't want to compare ourselves with some people (those that commend themselves). We don't want to boast of ourselves, but we can give God the glory for what he has done. Don't compare yourself to someone who is self-commended. God didn't call us to determine our standing by where someone else is at. If you try to find where you are based on a moving object you'll always be moving around and will never be entirely sure where you are at. If you measure by what God has given you'll find where you're at. God's measure is the one that will ultimately make the difference. His is a fixed measure.
Don't think of self more highly than you ought, be sober. Enjoy the blessings of God, but don't get lifted up in yourself. God has dealt to every man faith, and also the measure, faith. Faith is very important. Do you have faith in God? Faith is the important measure of how you are doing. "Without faith it is impossible to please God." Without faith you aren't doing too well. Before the cross, Christ's desire was that the disciples' faith would not fail.
1 Peter 1:5-9
Peter emphasizes the importance of faith. It is the keeping power of God. Faith is much more precious than gold. If you don't turn lose of your faith, no one can take it from you. Faith can get you through many things that money can't get you through. A tried faith that holds firm will bring praise, glory and honor to Christ. Christ provided salvation for all mankind and we can have a personal assurance that all is well with us and God. Faith taking hold on the promises of God brings assurance. This is the measure of faith.
We're not trying to just come to the point of being looked on with favor by the pastor and others, but we are trying to come up to the measure of Christ. Don't set your sights on a moving target. We want to come to the place where we know the FULNESS of Christ. Teaching can be varied; it can change. Get your eyes on something settled - Christ. He's not going to adjust to the circumstances. Work at coming to the measure of Christ. Our life will be more stable if we get our eyes on him. Speak the truth in love - that all may grow in Christ. We want to share what we have learned so that we may all benefit, and grow in Christ. Everything stems from Christ. As we all get closer to God we'll get closer to each other, by sharing what we have received from God. We want an effectual working in every part. We want every part of Christ's body to function as it should. Have faith in God and come to the stature of Christ. He is our example - our pattern to follow. Ultimately look to Christ - the example that all others are secondary to. Measure by God's rule. If we measure up to that rule we can have confidence before God and others.
