Galatians 6:2, 9, 10
Our service to God is the life we live when we go out from here. We meet together to be encouraged and built up. You might say it's our support group for the work we need to do. "Bear ye one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ." - "Go and teach" Bear the burdens of others. Our life is to be an outflowing of the blessings of God. You're to be a blessing and help to all those in your influence... don't get weary in the bearing. As we have opportunity do good to all, and especially to each other...
"Freely ye have received, freely give." Receiving is easy - but don't be a dam in the river of life - be a channel that God's blessing can flow through. Let it flow on through, and be of benefit to others. v. 40-42 He brings it down to a simple cup of cold water. None of us are so poor off that we can't give a cup of cold water. you have to have the desire to give, the motivation to give of what you have. A touch of kindness is what's needed most today. A kind word can be the "cup of cold water". Take a little time and a little interest. Provide the things needful and helpful for the spiritual and physical growth of others.
Christ was invited to the house of a Pharisee... sat down to eat but didn't wash his hands... We can be so wrapped up in the forms of religion that we miss the point of what it's about. Give of yourself and it will keep things clean. If you want to live a clean life.. be a giver. Sin destroys you and others.. Bear others burdens instead of being a burden. Give of what you have.. (ex. of Peter and John and the lame man at the temple .. they gave of what they had and it really changed his life..) Every child of God has something to give. Be careful not to pass over judgment and the love of God.
It's your father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. If you're inclined to hoard, put it in heaven, nothing can reduce the value of it if you store it there. Be ready to stand before God. Live a clean and pure life.
Cornelius life had already come to the attention of God, and God wanted to add to that. He was already making use of what was his. What kind of a memorial does God see in you? (alms = things you give to/do for others) He gave to others and was faithful in prayer (this was his daily life). Do it from a heart of love and genuine concern. JUST going to church is not what God had in mind. He wanted us to live it before the world.
If you want to be of service to your fellowman - do.. do it unto the least of these.. help to bear someone else's burdens. It's about how you live and what you choose to do. Whatever God would have us to do, that's what we need to do. Souls still need God.
