1 Corinthians 2:9-11
"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him..." Christ prepared for us to have greater things, but man has to take in that it is there and prepared for him.. and desire it. "But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit..." If you want to see and understand more of the things of God you need the Spirit of God. We can know the things of man because we are humans, but to understand the things of God.. we must have the Spirit of God within.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4
"If our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost..." We want to get the message from God and get it out before others... The things of this world can cloud our vision and cause us to miss out on being shown some things by God. We need to look for that which will help us... "Lord, what would you have me to do.. and what do you have for me? what can you do for me so that I can grow and be of greater benefit to you? what can you do for the needs that I have?" God has a message for each of us...
"Whom say the people that I am?" (He's checking to see if the people are getting the message...) Some people today aren't getting the message that Christ is the Son of God...
These were struggling to explain and understand what had happened... Sometimes God tries to get the message through, but we're not too good at receiving it. We need more of the Spirit so that we can have better understanding. We need to get the message, not just hear what was said and miss the point. We want to make sure we're getting the message. Are we getting all that God would have for us?
He was in the world but the world didn't know him. They missed all the prophecy and didn't recognize him even with all the miracles and teachings he brought. The ones that got the message received things from God. The older brother of the prodigal could have enjoyed much more had he just asked for it. We have to see, believe, ask and we'll receive from God. He still has a more than sufficient supply for each of us.
Jesus got on to Philip here... "After all you've seen, do you STILL not get it?!" After Pentecost they understood more, but at this point, their understanding was limited. We want to see what God would show us by his Spirit.
Colossians 1:26, 27
God would show to us the riches of his glory and the mystery of some of these things if he can get it through to us. He wants to make known the greatness of what he can do, but he has to get past our "blinders". He wants us to know and to know the value of knowing it. Sometimes we're content to settle for less than what God would have for us. We get our eye on one thing and we're satisfied with that.. but God would have us have more and better than that. We need to take in more of what God can do. He'd give us so much more if we could see it enough to pursue it.
