Isaiah 42:1-9

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.  He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.  A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.  He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.  Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:  I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;  To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.  I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.  Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

This speaks to us of Jesus.  Jesus was sent for our benefit.  “Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”  This prophesied of Jesus before he came.  It says wonderful things about him.  He did what God sent him to do.  He came to show us who God is and what God would have us to be.  He was not a self-promoter.  He came to lift up God.  He was kind and compassionate.

God made everything and he made us to be what we are.  He can bring us through all we face.

“I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” People think they can make God to be what they want him to be.  They’re wrong.  God is who he is.  The glory of God won’t be given away.  It belongs to God and God alone.

Isaiah 45:18-25

For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else.  I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.  Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.  Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.  Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.  I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.  Surely, shall one say, in the Lord have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed. In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

Isaiah pointed the people to God. “For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens…” God created all things and without him there is nothing.  He is the first and the last.  God made the world where we could live here.  No one else can be to us what he is to us.  God’s way is the only way. “…there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” There is one God and everyone needs to find him.

“… a just God and a Savior…” God will do what is right and give justice.  He’s also a Savior.  He will save men from their sins.  Look to God and be saved.

“I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.” God allows some things to continue, but you will someday face him and bow before him.  Come to God before the day of mercy is past.  God wants people to be saved while his mercy is offered.  Christ came for everyone so we can be saved. “Surely, shall one say, in the Lord have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.” By him we can walk with God down here.

Philippians 2:5-11

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Christ was the Son of God.  Even though he was, he took the form of a servant instead of seeking fortune and fame.  He suffered death because of our sins.  “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” People speak of him as less than he was, but on that day every knee will bow at his name.  Jesus is the only Savior of mankind.

Acts 4:8-12

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;  Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Peter preached a plain message. “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.” They rejected the only one God would send.  God is God and beside him there is none else.  Jesus is the only way to be saved.  They set Jesus aside and because they did, their house was left desolate.  Jesus came.  Put your faith in him.
