Worshiping in SpiritBro. David Chancellor

I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;
This is the beginning of John telling of the revelation of God to him. John was on the island because people wanted to persecute him for serving God. The persecutions didn’t hinder him from coming into the presence of God.
It’s good to come together to worship during the week, but every day should be a day when we come into God’s presence and have him speak to us.
Life is about God. The things of this life are designed to be temporary. They are here until God says, “Enough!”
We come together so we can hear God speak to us. What John saw was marvelous to behold. Jesus died and rose again and lives forevermore. Because of his resurrection we can enjoy redemption and victory over sin. Freedom is God’s to give. God speaks to us so we can find life, blessings and benefit. We need to be in that spirit when we come to worship God.
1 Corinthians 14:12-17
Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
It is good for people to be zealous of spiritual gifts, but we need to excel to the edification of the church. We come together to enjoy the presence of God.
If you know more than one language, pray that you’re able to interpret. Don’t just speak it to prove you can. The goal is to edify as God speaks to the heart.
We pray one at a time so we can understand and agree in prayer for the same thing. We want to agree that God would move on the needs.
It takes the Spirit to pray and to sing. The world tries to figure out if you have talent to sing. As we worship God, we need God to move on our hearts. The Spirit adds something to our praying and singing that we can’t do ourselves.
Prayer is more than just words. It is my spirit reaching out to God.
Singing is an expression of the heart. We need God’s Spirit to help us get the expression out.
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
The Spirit enters into our emotions. Our emotions should enter into prayer. Our soul should reach out and connect with God. We nee to know what we should pray for. How do we know what to pray for except God’s Spirit help us? We need God to move on our being. Ask God to help you know what to pray for. We want God to move on hearts. We want God to move us to know how to pray. God needs to move on our understanding so we can pray according to his will. We need the Spirit to pray effectively.
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
God can help us to see his will in our lives. You don’t have to get drunk to have a good time. You can have a good time when you are filled with the Spirit. Let the Spirit work on you so that God will be pleased. Have joyfulness toward God. Enter into the singing when the Spirit lays it on your heart.
God wants us to express joy in our hearts to him. We can be blessed by God and sing like a child. Rejoice in God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
He lists the fruit of the Spirit. You can’t go wrong letting the Spirit rule in your life. Walk in the Spirit. Let the Spirit direct your daily life. We need the Spirit with us in our lives, our prayers, etc. We need God to help us reach out to him. Walk each day by the Spirit of God. So much we do relies on us being led by the Spirit of God.
