But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus
Paul was pointing out the righteousness and goodness of God. We all need God because we were all in sin and short of the glory of God. God had mercy on us and provided a plan where he could be both just and merciful. He sent Jesus for all mankind. The price for our sins was paid and we can have a relationship with God.
Sin is a reproach. It reflects badly on us. It is dishonorable. When in sin, we didn’t bring honor or praise to his name.
Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
This describes God’s care for humanity. He cares about everyone. Many things are allowed to happen for our benefit. When we were in sin, people suffered for our good. God used things to bring us to himself. God calls us each one and has a plan for our lives. We were put here to bring honor to God. If we’re living in sin, we’re living for self and aren’t bringing glory to God. We aren’t showing forth what God wants for our lives. The only way to bring glory to God is to return to him. We must depend on him for our help.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word.” Jesus was praying for us. When God works in your life, you can testify that he has worked on you. We need to be united with God. We need the presence of God if we would bring honor to his name. “I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” God’s love is to be manifest to the world through God’s people. To bring glory to God, he must give it to us. We need God’s presence in our lives. Others should see his working in us.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
The glory God puts on us should produce good works in us. God’s Spirit will produce good things in your life. We want them to see what God is working in us. That is how God will be glorified. Do good no matter who is watching or who gets the credit. We want God’s work to glorify God. Do it to God. God is pleased when we focus on God and doing what God wants. God was glorified in Job’s troubles because Job proved he was committed to God. When God puts his grace in you, you can go through all your troubles and glorify God. Draw close to God and continue to produce the good works that bring honor to God.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
God is glorified when you bear much fruit. A branch without a vine isn’t worth anything. They dry up and die. We are totally dependent on God. On our own, we won’t accomplish what God wants.
The fruit God desires is the work of the Spirit in your life. It should be evident for others to see. God gets glory when the fruit of the Spirit is in your life in abundance. Love should be in our lives. Good attitudes, peace, joy, faith… these fruit should be evident in us.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
Paul wrote to these because of something that was a poor reflection on God’s church. We are to be the temple of God. The Old Testament temple was the handiwork of man. God’s work in your heart shows his handiwork. Man can’t change man. Our lives should bring glory to God. The work of God in our body and spirit should bring honor and glory to God. Our lives should lift up God. What we do reflects on God. God made us to bring glory to his name. Walk like Jesus and manifest his Spirit. Let the glory of God shine through you.
