Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
One of life’s greatest blessings is to see God. We can enjoy God’s presence here on earth. To see God, we must have a pure heart. A pure heart has had removed from it anything that God wouldn’t like. Pure, here, means unmixed. This is the heart where God dwells. It is only good and holy and right.
The Old Testament speaks of purifying gold. The objective was pure gold. We want God to work on our hearts so that only God is there.
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
"Unto the pure all things are pure…" If you have a pure heart, you want to keep it that way. You go through life looking for good and clean things.
"…but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled." If your heart is pure, you won’t be abominable and disobedient. Find the things that go with a pure heart. What is in your life? Are there things there that don’t come from a pure heart? If so, ask God to take a look and take it out. We want our lives to bring forth what honors God.
2 Timothy 2:21-22
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts; but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
There are some things we need to be clean from. God wants a clean and sanctified vessel. The pure heart prepares you for God’s good work. "Flee also youthful lusts; but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart." These should be present in our lives.
1 Peter 1:22-23
Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently; Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
No one can make himself clean. God cleans us. Even the old law couldn’t clean us. God calls us to him and he cleans us. Let God purify you.
"Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently." When your heart is pure, you can love pure people. We are drawn together. A pure heart causes us to enjoy being around God’s people. The grace of God will help to keep us pure when we’re in the world. If we seek God, he can help us to see when the devil is trying to work something in us.
And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us. And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
The question was whether or not the Gentiles had to keep the law of Moses. "And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us. And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith." God knows what our desires and intents are. He knows whether we want a pure heart or not. When he says something needs to go, it needs to go. Our hearts should be set on God. Our lives need to be cleaned and filled with the Holy Ghost. The Spirit of God can keep us victorious I n a wicked and sinful world. Purification is by faith.
1 John 3:1-3
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God; therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
That God would call you his son is the greatest blessing you can have. We are the sons of God now. We don’t know what eternity is like. It’s beyond our comprehension, but we know we’ll be like God. We still have something to look forward to: seeing God. We need an immortal body to be able to see God in all his glory and greatness.
"And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." We can’t do this, except by crying out to God to make us pure and keep us pure. We don’t want anything to turn us aside from God. Set yourself on the good things of God. Stay in God and let him wash away anything that would turn us away from God. Ask God to search you and keep you pure. We must have a pure heart to see God.
