Our Walk with God

2 Corinthians 5:1-10

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." Do you know and believe this? Are you confident in this? We need to be convinced that there is an eternal home that we’re going to, so much so that it affects how we live our lives.

None of us can earn heaven, or do enough good works to make up for a life of sin. Only God’s mercy can remedy the life of sin. Yet, there is a reward for the righteous. We want to make heaven. "Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit." God made us to go to heaven. "Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: … We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him." We must receive God as our Savior. After he has forgiven us, it is expected by God that we live to be accepted of him. We want to reap the benefits of some good in heaven. How we live has to do with what we can expect in the world to come.

Luke 20:27-38; Matthew 6:19-21

Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him, Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up a seed unto his brother. There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. And the second took her to wife, and he died childless. And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died. Last of all the woman died also. Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain the world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The Sadducees had asked whose wife she would be in heaven. Jesus said that there is no marriage in heaven.

The thought of preparation is there in the scripture in Matthew. Nothing on earth will last. Are you invested in heaven? The eternal reward will cost us something. How we live here will affect that reward. Lay up treasures in heaven. Go about doing good things. Take what God has given you and invest them in your heavenly reward. Be concerned about your eternal retirement. Things here will pass away. Only the eternal things of God will last.

Matthew 5:11-12

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Do you have a great reward in heaven? Do you feel that it is worth it to suffer to get it? Will you stand by Jesus and gladly suffer knowing that there is a great reward to be had if you do?

Hebrews 11:32-38

And what shall I more say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets; Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again; and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword; they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the word was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

These people went through all of these things by faith because they believed it was better to go through this with God than to lose their faith. "…that they might obtain a better resurrection…" Things didn’t work out well for those who recanted. Too many "Christians" are seeking an easy way. Put your faith in God and count on him. Look for the right way. There is a reward for the righteous. There are good feelings and enjoyment in doing good for others here. Invest in your eternal reward.

Heaven is all about God’s mercy and grace. His grace helps us to be victorious over sin in this life. God can work in and through us if we seek to walk his way.

Hebrews 10:32-35

But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock, both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

They faced some rough things when they turned to Christ. "Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock, both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used." It makes the point of the power of Christ and his resurrection when you stand with God in the face of trouble. Stand up for those who are suffering and be a help, even if it brings suffering to you. "For ye had compassion on me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance." We must have the confidence that we have something better waiting on us in heaven. Don’t lose sight of the goal. Have confidence that what you invest in heaven means you have something better waiting over there. "Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward." Whatever we endure here will be worth it over there. There’s no room for the devil’s "what if." Don’t miss out on the only thing that matters. There’s nothing that can compare to heaven and what’s waiting for us there. free web stats
