A House of PrayerBro. Ron Rupé

God describes his house as a "house of prayer." He didn't call it a "house of preaching" or a "house of singing" or a "house of fellowship."
- Preaching and teaching have no power or anointing if not done in a house of prayer.
- Singing and all other exercises in worship are superficial and hollow if not first done in a house of prayer.
- There is no fellowship outside of a house of prayer.
If all we accomplish in a service is prayer, we have accomplished much. On the other hand, if we worship in all other ways, but forget to pray, then we have met in vain.
1 Peter 2:5
- "You are a holy priesthood... to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God." The whole purpose of worship is to commune with God. In the OT it was the priest and God. We've come together to make sacrifice to God. We come together to seek God in prayer.
- The house of prayer is not a physical building, it is God's people. "... a spiritual house..." The prophecy of Isaiah was speaking of God's people, a people (house) of prayer.
You are the habitation of God. Are you a house of prayer? Are you fulfilling that prophecy? If we cease to be the house of prayer, we cease to be a house of God. People will ask for prayer if they know you are a house of prayer. Is your home a "house of prayer"? The presence of God is in the house of prayer, and his blessing is on the house of prayer.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
You, each individual belonging to God, is the temple of God. Are you a house of prayer? There is fullness of joy in the house of prayer. Peace and joy can be found by spending time on your knees.
Jesus said, "My house shall be called a house of prayer..." but you have made it into something else. People have made God's house into a place of entertainment. Anything and everything, but... prayer. This world needs congregations that meet together just to pray.
The church today has time for cares, riches and pleasures of life, but... no fruit. After Jesus cleansed the temple, the blind and lame came to be healed. When the church is restored to being a house of prayer, sinners will come and be healed.
This is a good representation of modern-day religion. They have a vain religious ceremony, but their hearts are on their play. This goes for the "can't wait till service is over so I can..." whatever it is.
This is the superficial religion of people given to pleasure (verse 13). God condemns the religious - "Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men." These are in a spiritual slumber and can't understand because the book has been sealed. Why is this? because it isn't a true worship. This is not the kind of house we want.
1 Kings 8:12-14, 22,26-43
When Solomon dedicated the temple, he dedicated it as a house of prayer. The sole purpose of the temple was people praying and God hearing. We need to have our home dedicated as a house of prayer. Our new church building should be dedicated as a house of prayer. We need to be sure we are a praying people. Let's not be given to play. It can be refreshing to the mind and body, but it won't satisfy the soul. Don't let entertainment choke out the spiritual life of the home. Keep from defiling the temple with worldly pleasures that drain spiritual life. Being a house of prayer must start on an individual basis.
God has opened his house to the Gentiles and has given them a place in his house. The place he has given is a place to kneel. His house is one of prayer. He has opened his doors to all people, so that all people can pray. People come either to pray or for prayer. Does God have a place here where he can bring people for prayer? Let's be sure that we stay a house of prayer.
