I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We often focus on spiritual things and the work God does on our spirit. We need the Spirit of God to rule in our hearts so we "may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
We have a living soul and a body that houses it. This addresses the issue of your body. It speaks of your body as being a living sacrifice. With the sacrifice of the Old Testament, the sacrifice didn’t live through the sacrifice. The only one that lived through the sacrifice was the scapegoat. God didn’t choose us as that kind of living sacrifice. He would have us given to him while we’re still here. He would have us live a life of sacrifice to him. Our bodies are there for his using; to be used in a way that pleases him. We are to use our bodies to glorify God, to lift him up and honor him. The people around us need to see God in us. It’s allowing him to do as he pleases.
2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
When we receive from God we’ll receive what is done in our bodies. If you go around treating people ugly, you’ll end up being treated ugly. Whatever we do, we’ll receive. People often do things without considering it from the other side. It matters what we do in this body. If we’ve given it to God, it’s his now and he gets to say what it does. What we do now affects both this life and the world to come. Commit to do what God would have you do.
Therefore I say unto you, Take no though for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body more than raiment?
If you don’t eat, you won’t live long. Life is more than just eating or some chemical process. Don’t reduce life to just eating. The body is more than just something to put clothes on. It’s more than what we wear. Think about what is shown forth by your body and what you wear… but the body is more than that. Consider your character. In all ways… lift up God.
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity; so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature: and it is set on fire of hell.
Consider how you use your tongue. Used in the wrong way, it defiles the body. Every part of our bodies, every aspect of our daily lives, should be used to honor God. Be thoughtful of what you do whether others watch or not. When we give our bodies to God, there is no private time. Live for God at all times and in all places. Have it settled to lift God up.
The world can experience our spirit, hear our testimony, and see our lives. If we would lift up Jesus, he needs to be the center of our lives.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
You body is the temple of the Holy Ghost only if you have presented it as a living sacrifice. Until our body is given to God as a living sacrifice, we are our own. For the Holy Spirit to dwell in you, your body must be given to God. "For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s." God has to be glorified in both your body and your spirit. People need to see him in you. Your spirit is manifested in what your body does. Live a life of sacrifice to God. Glorify him in every part of your life. When you are filled with the love of God, it will manifest itself through your body.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Wholly means completely. Every part of you is affected in your walk with God. God would purify us in every part. Live such that God can look on you and express his pleasure in you. Follow in Christ’s steps. Let him purify you. God can sanctify your whole being if you will offer it to him.
