2 Corinthians 5:17-21; 6:1

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them: and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…" We need to be a new creature. The old things are things we needed to leave behind. God saved us and gave us a work to do. We’re to show / declare to others that God wants them reconciled to himself. We are telling others where we found the answer for our lives. To tell others, you need to experience it yourself first.

If we don’t stay where God wants us to be, it is hard to be workers together with him. There are some things that just don’t fit into God’s plan. Those things will be a hindrance to working for God. You need to be saved and have the fruits of God’s Spirit in your life to do a work for him.

Proverbs 6:16-19

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief. A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Every one of these things are detrimental to the work of God. Pride is destructive because it causes you to see others as worth less than yourself. Every person has a soul and has value to God. Pride doesn’t always manifest itself in outward adornment. It is an internal condition. It tries to manifest its self-worth in various ways. For some, that is outward adornment and status symbols. Wealth may elevate in society, but to God we’re all equals. To God, we’re all valuable. When it comes to the work of God, we all have a part to play. There is a place for all of us. We may have different responsibilities. The goal is to do what you can do most effectively. It isn’t about titles and positions.

Honesty is valuable to the work of God. It isn’t always pretty, but it’s needful. People need to know our word is true. When it comes to the word of God, we want people to know when we speak it that it is true and right. People will build on the word we share with them and we want it to last for eternity.

The hand that would destroy others to get what it wants is detrimental to the work of God. Sometimes people will destroy because they want a thing so much. You can’t work for God that way. God’s work is instructive and edifying. It teaches and builds up. It won’t destroy a soul. The one that would destroy is disgusting to God. If people disappoint you, don’t let it affect your attitude toward them. Watch your attitudes. Be a blessing and a help to them.

People who get skeptical of others and speculate about others intentions / actions / etc. are ones whose hearts devise wicked imaginations. Don’t always expect the worst from people. See the potential for good in others. See what can be. Look at souls and see what God can do. Turn to God. Others can enjoy what we enjoy. Do we see possibilities in each other? Expect the best from your fellow saints.

Are you always where trouble is found? It’s hard to be involved in bad works when you’re involved in good ones. People get involved in mischief when they could be doing good. Be swift to hear what God has to say and swift to act on what he would have us to do.

Be a true and faithful witness, one that represents God well. Love covers / overlooks some things so that souls will have the opportunity to improve. Have a heart that wants people to have a chance to change. A false witness wants to see someone hurt to make a point. We want those faults to be covered by the blood of Christ and for that soul to go on to better things.

It’s a bad thing to divide people up. It makes it hard to work together with a divider in the midst. God doesn’t like wall builders. His wall of salvation is sufficient. Building walls separates people. Having a following isn’t God’s business for us. We’re to point people to God. If we’ll be reconciled to God, our differences can be worked out. The work of God is often hindered by people who work to keep people apart. God would have us see his love in others’ hearts and come together. Work for harmony at home and among each other at church and among God’s people. Discord is a real hindrance to the work of God. God doesn’t like it and we shouldn’t either. Sow harmony.

Matthew 23:5-12

But all their works they do for to be seen of men; they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments. And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Christ was addressing the self-important ones. It isn’t about how much people know that you’re doing, but about how much you get done. We may not be seen a whole lot, but if we can get the work done, we’ve done a good thing. Humility allows you to do more. It allows you to lift up Christ. Who do you want to lift up? Let Jesus shine through you. The light shines best through the window that is too clean to see. We should want to have souls saved, however it happens. It doesn’t matter who gets the credit as long as God gets the job done on the soul. We just want souls to be saved. The best way to be used by God is to humble yourself.

Philippians 1:27

Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

We want to be workers together with God. Live so as to promote the gospel. Set aside things that would hinder. Live to lift up Jesus. We need the one Spirit to draw us together, so that we can work to one purpose – to promote Christ. We want others to hear the message of reconciliation. We have to work together for it.
