Isaiah had many things to say about the gospel day. "For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest" We don't want to be self-satisfied... to miss the fullness God has provided. "until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth..." This should be our desire. Just because we're doing a little better than someone else doesn't mean we should sit back and coast. We should be all that God would have us to be - and therein we'll find comfort and rest. (v. 6 & 7) He's admonishing us not to give God any rest until God does that work among us. Be persistent - don't just settle for "good" - we want a bright shining evidence of God. Don't get content with just a little - let's win the battle AND the war!! Daniel started praying for the return of the Israelites to Canaan. Gabriel eventually came and told him that his prayers had been heard but that he had been hindered by God from coming right away. If the answer for our prayer was hindered for a bit, would you keep on praying until it came? Don't quit until the righteousness shines forth as brightness.. They were to be called by a new name... "And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the Lord: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken..." Church of God means.. the sought out of God. When people claim to be a child of God and walk in sin - they aren't a crown of glory to him. There should be a commitment to the cause of God. "As a bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride..." God finds pleasure in his people. (ex: Have you seen my servant, Job, isn't he a good servant!?) We want God to have pleasure in us. We want him to be able to work in and through us. If we want to see the church lifted up let's not be happy with something less than what God would have. We want to carry others burdens, but we also want to pursue God until we are sure all is right with us and God. We want to reap some fruit in ourselves; rejoicing in God's presence in us. "Lift up a standard for the people" ... Lift up the battle flag - something that encourages people and brings them in. Lift up the banner of God and let's rally round it (Christ). Let's lift up a standard in Christ - it should mean something to us; it should move us. Our salvation is Christ. His reward is with him; his work is to redeem. The world needs to see Christ and all that he means and what he can do for the soul. Our testimony should be "He sought me out and saved me." He called us out to walk his way and do his work.
Give thanks to the Lord and call on his name... we want to do both. Keep not silent in either way. Sing songs (accompanied music) - give it all to God .. sing about what he's done, sing it to God that it might be a blessing to others. Our worship is towards God and he uses that to bless others. Let your heart rejoice in God and his strength. We want to be a real attraction for God in this world. We want them to see God in us. We want to hold up Christ before them. We want his work to go forth in a greater way.
