Jesus was speaking to the disciples, who had a desire for position. Christ used the examples of the Gentiles ruling over each other. Jesus was trying to teach them that they should minister or work to help one another. "For even..." Christ didn't come to be ministered to, but to minister to the needs of humanity. God intended that each of our lives should serve a purpose, that others would receive benefit from our life. Christ could have been a natural ruler, but he came to give to others. He came to give his life for us. The real ministry of Christ was to come and offer "a ransom for many." The many includes us. He still has this ministry today.
John 10:11, 15, 17-18
The disciples were unaware that Christ was headed for the cross - though Christ tried to tell them. Christ laid his life down - it could not be taken from him. He gave his life - he willing went to the cross. He could have chosen a different outcome; he could have called ten thousand angels ... but he didn't. He allowed them to take him to the cross. He did this to fulfill the reason of his coming. He laid down his life that he could take it again. In this, he proved he was the son of God. He was able to rise again. People can take our life, but we don't have the power to take it again. Because he was able to do this, he is able to give us new life.
The cross was not glorious - it had shame, suffering, rejection, and the despise of mankind. The glory is in the resurrection. Many have found God because he suffered and rose again. They are the fruit of his death, and the resurrection is great.
2 Corinthians 5:14, 15
"If one died for all, then were all dead." We all had a need that needed to be made right. Christ died for each of us, that we could live for him. We want to live for Christ - it should cause us to love him so much that we WANT to live for him. Christ died and rose again that we might have life.
Christ was able to open the book - to reveal the workings of God for the gospel day. No man was able to do what Jesus did. It took Christ. The Old Testament sacrifices were done to show us what Christ was. This song that was sung should be our song: "Thou art worthy." Our life has been changed; it is pure and holy, and this is made possible by the slain Lamb. Christ died to save people in every "kindred, tongue, people and nation." He died to save people all over the world. He died for the whole world; people in every location, in every period of time. We can reign on the earth, right here, right now. Paul said we can live "soberly, righteously, and godly" - right here, right now.
